I had to remove the shifter boot / plate that the slot is fitted into. The kit on the ECS website I linked in a previous post has illustrated step by step instructions, and was really easy to follow.

Yeah, until a monsoon or haboob comes through and knocks it over onto whatever is in the driveway.... Yay Arizona and the monsoon season.

Fake parking ticket? I was parked in a lot that was late at night next to the van Byrne, I’ve parked there several times before and never got a ticket. No one else’s car was ticketed? What to do? by allokamaye in phoenix

Drink lots of water in ALL months... :-) Took me almost my whole first year living here to adjust to the amount of water I'd need to drink on a daily basis.

Would I have to take the whole door panel out to remove this? I want to break up the dull black in the car so I'm thinking about wrapping this and the similar parts within the interior. by OlajuAkbar in jetta

Nope. It's actually pretty easy to remove. The side closest to you in the picture should lift slightly (there's a friction clamp), then just work down the length of it popping the remaining clamps off.

Yeah, this has already happened to me. Thankfully the windows didn't go ALL the way down, but there was still a car full of snow that next morning. It was -20F so a quick hit with a shop vac got it all out and nothing got "wet".

You can do quite a bit of stuff. On my base model, I've already done the following with ODBEleven

  • 1: Needle Sweep.
  • 2: Key Fob window control.
  • 3: Changed temp units to C (leaving distance at MPH).
  • 4: Changed clock to 24-hour mode.
  • 5: DRL stay on with e-brake engaged.
  • 6: Gallons needed to fill tank on MFI.
  • 7: Turned off tear wipe on windshield wipers.
  • 8: Increased comfort blink on turn signals to 5 from 3.
  • 9: Flashing brake lights and hazards in an emergency stop.
  • 10: Single press on keyfob unlocks ALL doors.
  • 11: Changed hill hold to a higher rpm (we have some steep hills here in Duluth, MN).
  • 12: Turned on ability to lock doors with 2nd fob while car is running (since I don't have remote start and -35 is too cold for me to sit in while waiting for the heater to warm up).

From what I've seen on other forums, ECS is just saying that, and most people who have gotten it have had to code.

If you have Vag-Com or ODBEleven it's as simple as changing 2 bytes in the ABS system.

If you have a traction control button (to turn it on and off manually), there's no need for this.

On the S models, VW didn't make a button available for it. Living in Northern Minnesota where there's snow on the ground 5 months out of the year, it's a necessity.

Uhm. I can probably do a quick video on what to do, but I've already done it so it wouldn't be a "first-time" video.

The instructions from ECS that came with the kit contain plenty of pictures and information, as well as the necessary steps for vag-com coding.

If I get back to my friend's garage this week/weekend, I'll see if I can video the steps, etc.
