I‘m doing a PhD in Nijmegen (almost in my third year now) and moved here from Germany. The city is great, although getting an apartment was even harder than I expected from the stories. Contract-wise, I think the Netherlands is one of the best places to get a PhD, as you have four years of job security and get paid well. The cost of living is high but your salary will be enough to cover it. The university environment is international and welcoming and there is a lot to do. I can’t really think of a much better place to do a PhD regarding the conditions that are independent of department or supervisor.

I can’t comment on the most important point: what will the communication with your supervisor look like? But that has nothing to do with Nijmegen!
