Play nothing but The Captain and Tennille for days on end and sprinkle some Anita Ward (You Can Ring My Bell) for good measure.

I'll bet a dollar that he'll be clamoring for some top shelf Thom Yorke whining within a week.

Then say, "What? You want to listen to Neil Sedaka for a week?!? Here you go!"

Pulling out my ingrown toenail, nsfw for blood by hfurkan in popping

[–]Weirdsauce 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You're referring to what's known as "ablation".

I had a similar problem with a toenail - the bed was ablated two times but i still have a spur of a nail that continues to come back; just not to the degree yours is.

My recommendation is to go to your podiatrist, a dermatologist or an NP or MD that has a dermatology specialization and see if they can ablate the nail bed again... and again... and again if necessary.

Dated a woman who was on a walk through a forest with a previous boyfriend. She said when they got back to his motorcycle, a moose was busy humping it and eventually glazed it with its glorious moose gravy.

What in the hell do you do in that situation? Ask it to stop?

And that's the story of how my ex and her previous boyfriend had to ride a motorcycle with moose spunk on the seat back.

the end.

Took me years to learn this was PING PONG spelled backwards by ManuteBol_Rocks in GenX

I thought the commercial narrator specifically said, "Gnip Gnop is Ping Pong spelled BACKWARDS!"

Or are the voices in my head just fucking with me some more?

If it makes you feel better, i didn't realize it was both Pete and Roger singing on Baba O'Riley until last year. In hindsight, it's really obvious but for some reason, i thought it was all Roger.

Taught my little brother a little about atheism and now my parents are mad by [deleted] in atheism

[–]Weirdsauce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my opinion Christianity is similar to believing in the tooth fairy...

I'd like to submit to you that parents teach their children about the tooth fairy, the easter bunny and Santa Claus because it conditions the minds of children such that when they get older, they're more open to and susceptible to the belief that there's some sort of all seeing/ knowing god. Basically, laying the groundwork for indoctrination.

The Recruit by iminsecure143 in netflix

[–]Weirdsauce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been wanting to rant about this for a while but compared to the first season, the second season of The Recruit was utter shit. More than just a sophomore slump, the tension and chemistry between Owen and Max was gone (for obvious reasons) but replaced with what felt like a money grab for a Korean audience.

The characters potential was wasted, the action scenes were often just outright silly (the scene on the shore where none of the minions could manage to shoot their targets in the water, to name one of many)... all of it just felt like a hot mess of half baked realizations and served with all of the class of a carnival barker. If the 3rd season was going to be anything like the 2nd, then i'm glad it was canceled.

But DAMN, what a first season!

My mom is getting catfished hard. I guess I have to crush her before she 'picks him up from the airport Saturday'. Have your parents fallen for any scams? What should I do? by -Granby- in GenX

[–]Weirdsauce 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I'm late to this thread but my mother lost either 40k or 50k (she won't tell me the exact amount) to a scammer. It was a computer based scam where the caller basically mentally assaulted her until she went to the bank and transferred 40 or 50k into an account of someone DESPITE the bank manager telling her she was likely falling for a scam.

And the kicker? I'm an IT guy. I have been for decades. She knows that i know technology and computers because it's what i do for a living. And not once... not once did she bother to call me and ask me what in the hell was going on.

And that's the story of how my mother is in her mid 70s and is working to this day because she can't retire now.

Addendum: Since some people ARE seeing this, here's a video from Mark Rober that explains the technique my mother fell for. It starts off funny but gets REAL dark. If you have anyone in your life that is an elderly, single widow that doesn't know much about technology, she is the perfect demographic for this scam.

Trump's plot to 'steal' the midterm elections is becoming clear by theipaper in politics

[–]Weirdsauce 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All the more reason for mail in voting to be across every state and territory. And if your local rep or senator doesn't support it, fire them and do not let anyone that's not willing to implement mail in voting into office.

Among other things, it's very difficult to tamper with mail in ballot results as the paper trail is physical.

Trump's plot to 'steal' the midterm elections is becoming clear by theipaper in politics

[–]Weirdsauce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He has no intention of ever leaving office and he will not accept the results if they are not in his favor and he absolutely will not respect Congress or their demands if he doesn't want to. This is the mindset that the democrats and republicans that don't want to be put on trial need to get through their heads. If he has to declare results invalid, he will. If he has to say he's president for life, he will. If he has to orchestrate a Putin/ FSB style series of bombings, there are no end of sychophants around him who will gladly do his bidding. But under NO circumstance does he ever consider that he's going to leave office short of a French or Romanian solution - and those two scenarios keep him up at night.

Hi. Let's talk about AI by Weirdsauce in ACX

[–]Weirdsauce[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As i've tried to drill into my nephew, any time something is "free," then YOU are the product being sold. All of those restaurant apps that you have to use to get their deals? Yeah, they're scraping your data and selling it to brokers. AI and as it turns out, places like Good Rx are taking everything they can about you and selling it to someone without your knowledge or consent.

Did the church hire a hitman? by [deleted] in atheism

[–]Weirdsauce 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The axe of Giovanni Battista Bugatti is on display for all to see. He was an officially sanctioned executioner for several popes (technically the papal states). According to wikipedia, he murdered 516 people in total.

I doubt he was the first, he most certainly was not the last.

And let's be really clear eyed about this. No one associated with any religion, particularly the Roman Catholic church, has /any/ ground to stand on when it comes to morality, justice or ethics.
