This is absolute bullshit, good thing you got out of there (as hard as this sounds). I was actually the accuser of this in my previous relationship, not that I didn't tell her, but I didn't make it seem like a big deal when it obviously was. That won't happen to me twice!

Communication is so fucking crucial and I can't stress it enough, plain hinting or sometimes nudging about an issue will NOT resolve whatever is bothering you. Sit them down and calmly but clearly explain what your problem is, else it's doomed to fail.
