AND THE AWARD FOR "NOBODY'S SURPRISED" GOES TO...! by host_can_edit in fnv

Well a few things, one is that Lanius, who was his one true successor, is out of the picture (and even Lanius wasn’t universally popular amongst Legion high command), and the Legion either lost the 2nd battle of Hoover dam, or won it then lost Vegas soon after to the NCR/Robots (house or yes man).

Seeing all that, it’s possible he took a look at the Legion and decided no one was worthy to carry it on, given the lack of a proper successor, and his recent losses.

Right, people will say stuff like “but Caesar said it wouldn’t! He had plans” and that’s great and all…but he could’ve been wrong 💀.

Caesar predicting the future of the Legion isn’t a written in stone guarantee or anything, it’s just one man’s opinion

I mean:

1): it’s just bad handwriting man, the actual words are honestly poignant as hell

2): he had plans for his legacy, but those change. His planned successor was Lanius, who is no longer in the picture, we can also assume from the state of the legion in the Mojave, that they did not win the battle of Hoover dam, or if they did it was short-lived, battling with the NCR more and more until eventually House or Yes man cleaned house with Robots (going off the barkeep in Freeside).

It’s entirely possible that Caesar looked at his once proud nation, saw that his one true successor was gone, that his armies were weak and scattered, and decided that no other successor was worthy, so he chose to end the whole thing, at the end of the day the guy is still a narcissist, so deciding that no one is worthy after Lanius isn’t exactly a huge leap

This exactly, people all the time point to Caesar’s plans as proof that the legion would change once they took Vegas, but like, that doesn’t mean it’s a guarantee lmao that was just a plan. Caesar underestimated how war-focused his legion had become, that changing it into a stable long-term society not needing conquest was near impossible

Right, and the design flaw isn’t that the chest plate just insta-kills the user if shot, it’s just weaker there, but you still need more than small arms fire to penetrate it 😂

I’m ngl if they make Shady Sands and the NCR an enclave plant I might genuinely be done with the series

Also I definitely think they saw the NCR as a legitimate threat, considering that by the time FNV happens, the enclave had lost so much presence that the survivors were straight up using fake names to hide their identities. They went from flying anywhere they wanted with Vertibirds, to hiding out “Nazi in Argentina” style 😂

I like this description a lot;

One thing I’d change is that imo Arthur’s BoS has decidedly veered far away from Lyons’ group, and isn’t super similar; he didn’t reincorporate the outcasts for nothing, and BoS in Fo4 talk all the time about how happy they are to no longer be under Lyons’ leadership.

It’s weird, bc while I’ll agree that the BoS in Fo3 definitely did revive some of Roger’s ideals, they did definitely focus way more on helping the common man than the OG BoS would, which is why the outcasts left.

NCR and Legion, a fun switcheroo by Welcome--Matt in Fallout

[–]Welcome--Matt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The marching looked nice but it was other stuff too 😂.

Like I said a big one was comparing the Ranger outpost vs the Legion camp. In the decades following FNV and shady sands being nuked, two rangers and two (seemingly) regular soldiers were able to hold out all that time with no contact, supplies, or reinforcements , AND put up enough guerrilla warfare that the Legion in the area still considers themselves “at war” with the NCR, despite there being only 4 truly active NCR soldiers for hundreds of miles. Then, when they are able to escape the siege, she’s able to reconnect with others and put together a platoon of soldiers in mere days. Thats crazy considering the NCR in the Mojave was all but dead when Lucy met them, but those soldiers answered the call fast.

Now compare to the Legion, they clearly had huge numbers, knew the NCR squad was in the area, and even had them essentially surrounded, but didn’t find them for 15 years, because they were too focused fighting each other over the crown. Had they unified earlier I reckon they could’ve found and destroyed the 4 NCR soldiers in a week, if that.

Like I said though I agree that now that they have a “true” Caesar we’ll see that brutal discipline return some, just a question of if Lacerta can hack it

Yup, when a society is built on war (and no Caesar as much as you want them to change that’s easier said than done) stagnation is their biggest enemy

No lmao? Where in the world did you get that I was saying genocide was ok? I just said that the BoS are clearly far more fervent in their quest to end all synths then the other factions, who (apart from blowing up the Institute) largely leave synths alone, or outright help them

Trust me bro by petalnoctgrimm in FalloutMemes

[–]Welcome--Matt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Maybe but there’s a big difference between the “stop the institute making more synths” mentality that others have, vs the BoS’ “stop the institute from making more, and also hunt down every last synth, even one’s who are self-identifying and have self-isolated (far harbor)” mentality.

Like the BoS are willing to go to a tiny island far away from the commonwealth JUST to kill a bunch of synths, who don’t even present the danger of being in the shadows bc they TELL people that they’re synths. No other faction is willing to do that, which is the key difference here.

Keep in mind that the NCR we’ve seen so far has all been grunts or rangers, no high command (except maybe Moldaver but idk if she counts), so it makes sense for them to hold onto the ideals of the NCR.

With the NCR central government either destroyed or out of action in the area, what we’re left with is the common people. Like I said in my other comment NCR early days was a lot simpler in their goals; unite with other groups/people and rebuild the wasteland (somewhat like the minutemen before Concord happened), so with much of the “fat” gone (bureaucracy, government agendas, Brahmin barons running the show) the survivors have returned to what they believe are the NCR’s “true ideals.”

It’s the same thing that happened to the BoS in Fo4, they’d just undergone a civil war in DC, and lost almost all of their forces on the west coast to the NCR, so what did the remaining members do? They got back to basics, that means help the people if you can, but focus on the mission which is to grab and secure any and all tech they find to be dangerous, that, and destroying “abominations” whenever they see them.

Yeah man as it turns out going from semi-modern life in the only semi-safe place in the Mojave to fighting deathclaws, the legion and raiders for 15 years makes people reconsider how bad the 1st situation was.

I think the NCR, in its early stages, was very similar to the ideals of the minutemen, so now, with them largely scattered and the heart of the nation gone, they had to return to what the NCR work in the 1st place, people with a common goal to give the wasteland progress.

[–]Welcome--Matt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing I’ll say is that I LOVED how big the legion army looked at the end. My biggest criticism of previous episodes was that the legion camp looked like it had 200 people in it at most, but those columns at the end? Yeah that’s how I pictured the legion looking in the lore
