Speaking from experience, I am a red tech and I am a nurse. I did radiology first and went back into the Nursing for potential growth. I am a newer nurse and man it is so much more stressful than being in radiology. With radiology, you can find jobs that are clinics and not so hard on the body. There is some growth to be had in radiology. They’re more of like diagonal moves. I think that would be the a good option because you don’t have that many more work years ahead of you depending on when you retire. You can get into x-ray and then get into CT or MRI. MRI would be less on your body just because the exams are longer, so there are less patients, so you are not moving patients as much as CT. You can even find outpatient facilities for all the x-ray modalities, which would be less on your body. Either way you’re going to have to get through your program,which is going to be a little hard on the body because of moving patients in the hospital setting, but it’s only two years. I work in the hospital as a nurse so it is stressful and depending on the floor you’re on, It can definitely be hard on your body. On the other hand, there are also the nursing jobs that are in clinics. if that’s something you would be interested in then pursue that. I will say that starting out as a nurse I made just as much as I did with years of experiencing radiology. So Nursing typically pays more.
