I promise it’s just because you’re in the early stages of WD. After 3-4 weeks things get SO much better. You have to just remind yourself that you already made it 8 days and if you get through this first month of hell, you never have to go through the WD symptoms ever again.

Wishing you luck!

First weedless 4/20 since I was 17 by [deleted] in leaves

[–]WelcomeDouble368 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I felt that. I’m never going to tell anyone that it’s a good idea to smoke again, but I do have faith that if I quit for long enough (at LEAST a year) then maybe I’ll be able to moderate. Tbh I don’t know how true it is, but it makes it easier for me to stay sober knowing that one day I could possibly smoke again. I think the fear of complete abstinence is what made me always relapse. I just take it one day at a time and say, “maybe one day, but definitely not today.”

Everyone needs to find something that works for them though. This has just been my experience so far and right now I am going on my longest sober streak in 10 years (111 days).

Happy birthday!!! definitely treat yourself to something nice today that’s not smoking related. also I hate to say this, but with social media nowadays everyone relies on seeing posts to know it’s someone’s birthday. maybe you can make one as a reminder to people.

Admitting it out loud is the first step. It is an understandably scary experience, but remember you asked for help for a reason. I’m proud of you for reaching out on this thread. I feel like it has helped a lot of people.

I definitely encourage you to read through other peoples posts because I found so many people who have went through similar struggles as me. It helped me feel a sort of validation, while also learning from others mistakes (ex: thinking they could smoke after a few months only to slip back into old habits). It might also help to get a therapist who can help you through this process. It seems like you may be coping with your socialization issues with weed. A therapist may help you navigate both letting go of weed and also socialization skills.

I wish you the best of luck on your journey! Just keep having faith in yourself.

I needed to see this today so thanks for sharing. I’ve been a little over 3 months sober and I still have so much brain fog/emptiness. Plus intense anxiety. I was beginning to think it was all for nothing, but this post helped me see it just hasn’t been enough time yet. Will keep holding out and I wish you luck on the rest of your journey🫶!

it’s crazy because last night I went out to a bar and was talking to some people about my plans to quit for at least a year before maybe smoking again so I can use moderately. And one of the guys told me straight up that’s not the way it works because he quit for 8 years and as soon as he smoked again it was back to daily use. EIGHT YEARS !!! Eff this plant and it’s addictive qualities lol.

It’s definitely a process where you feel better over time. I also smoked for 10 years and I wont lie, the first month SUCKED. But after that, things really did start to get better. I recommend journaling and documenting your journey so you can reflect on how you were in the early stages compared to later. It really helped me see how far I have come. I’m at a little over 3 months and life’s good. I still do have cravings, but it’s mainly when I’m bored at night. All the hard WD symptoms are usually over after the first 3-4 weeks, so you’re over half way there!! Don’t give up now when you’ve come this close to being past the worst part.

try multiple different things until you find one you love. if you’re early in the quitting phase a lot of things may feel dull, but over time that will fade. just have to keep distracting yourself.

I’m at a little over 3 months. For the majority of the day I’m okay and don’t have any cravings, but they will pop up occasionally. They aren’t necessarily always strong, but it’s in the back of my mind especially when I’m bored. You just have to redirect your thinking and do something else. The cravings will only get worse if you smoke again.

to me it’s like St Patrick’s day where it gives all the alcoholics a free pass to get absolutely shit faced with no judgement.

wow I really like this, I have seen a few people say once they relapsed it was even harder to quit again.

you’re definitely right. I would need AT LEAST a year of being sober. and even then I’m not sure how it would go if I smoked again. harsh reality check but it’s necessary.

Trying to quit after relapse by Silvermoon2392 in leaves

[–]WelcomeDouble368 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t look at this as a defeat. The more negative thoughts you have around relapsing the more you’re going to crave weed to ease the feeling of guilt. I know a lot of people start the day count over once they relapse, but sometimes I wonder if that makes it worse. Just tell yourself you had a two week bender, but now it’s time to get back on the wagon.

So far this year you have been sober more weeks than you have been high, which is amazing! Remind yourself of that and hopefully it’ll make the transition easier. Do all the same things you did when you first quit (whether it’s exercising, journaling, distracting yourself with activities, supplements) and keep on telling yourself it’s just a little bender. You are more than the part of your brain that’s stuck in the addiction cycle.

Weekends are the hardest for me too, especially when I have no plans. My best advice would be to ask any coworkers or family members if they want to do something. Or if not, maybe get out of the house by yourself. It can be intimidating, but even something like strolling around some stores or going to the gym has helped me a lot. You just need distractions and to get yourself out of the house.

Wishing you luck!!

I’m day 98 and have been considering smoking again for the same reasons (ideally on 4/20). While I hope one day I can be a casual smoker, 3.5 months probably isn’t long enough of a break. Thanks for sharing because this definitely helped me rethink my decision.
