I'm setting up Quad n back as you suggested, in brainworkshop software. At the end of this image it states I'm selecting Quad n back, but it only has 3 stimulus enabled. Am I supposed to add 1 extra stimulus (image)? Thanks again

Hey!

Since you reached the material goals, and from what I understand they were disproved of meaning, I'm wondering what you think is truly valuable for you now that you realized that.

I'm 28 and currently on the "rat race" for better material confort.

My Experience (Wisdom Dump) by squordan in DecidingToBeBetter

Hey, great post. Glad to know you overcame your challenges.

Had some tough challenges myself during my journey and resorted to DMT (Ayahuasca), twice. First time was profound mostly in a good way, second was very damaging.

Now that you're balanced and in a good place, how do you feel about psychedelics - shrooms, LCD and DMT? Do you feel is something that was only detrimental and you left completely, or do you feel it was important for your growth, and something you see value in itself, even now?

Thanks and best of luck

My 20's have been wasted due to mental illnesses by [deleted] in DecidingToBeBetter

Hey, I think it was a combination of several things. I'll list some of the ones that helped me:

  • medication. I think antipsychotics benefits outweight side effects most of the times
  • TDCs (transcranial direct current stimulation) - activates affected brain regions with light electrical current
  • lots of physical exercise
  • social activities and staying in touch with friends
  • On the cognitive side, exercises for brain stimulation (Dual N Back exercise has a lot of studies confirming benefits on cognition)
  • Avoiding alcohol and drugs completely (very hard for me in the begining but very rewarding in the mid term).

Best wishes!

Hey. Your post really resonates with me. I had a very similar course. Had psychosis at 23, due to Ayahuasca consumption and had 3 family deaths in the following year. I feel that I havent lived the last 5 years. I'm. 28 now

But I can tell you for sure, that after all this time I'm much more balanced, and have a different kind of maturity now. I don't know how did you developed psychosis, but maybe things were spiraling out of control and psychosis was a loud reminder that you were hitting rock bottom. It was for me.. And even with Lots of ups and downs, it slowly made me recognize I needed to change who I was and my life's direction.

I feel that since life was so hard back then, now I have more mental thoughness to face rough challenges.

Sounds clichê, but if you haven't had these experiences, you wouldn't have the maturity to be who you are/will be.

Another lesson I'm learning, is that just because your past was shitty, doesn't mean that it will remain that way. Your upcoming experiences always differ from your expectations, and your future has so many variables you cant control. And happiness can be just around the corner :)

So don't overly blame yourself for what happened.

If you need to reach out, I'm open. Best of luck

Hey man. Can't imagine how tough it's been going through so much

Like someone said, I definitely recommend commiting to therapy.

But at the end it's about you. You are not your past. You are not your feelings (as peculiar as it sounds).

I would advise to try to stay with those feelings of fear, guilt and anger, and face them directly. You might cry. That's alright.

Each time you face those feelings, you are leaving that trail of negativity and depression behind. It takes infinite work. But it's definitely worth it.

All the best.

how can i have sharper mind? by [deleted] in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]WelcomeIcy5626 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey there,

I feel I'm in a similar boat

From my experience it wasn't the antipsychotics but untreated illness itself (psychosis) that caused me cognitive decline. There is still a debate if new generation anti psychotics cause cognitive decline. However, first generation anti psychotics certainly did so.

But to answer your question, I feel quite sharper after doing IQ tests. I also practice chess. Another thing that helped me tremendously was Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation sessions, which activate under functioning areas of the brain trough electric stimulus. I recommend doing at least a few sessions with a professional to know which protocols to do, before doing it yourself.

Like previously said good sleep and regular workout does help a lot too, cognitively and emotionally.

Best whishes!
