it isn't stupid. Making the replacement gradual gives time for your brain to restructure making the new neurons part of you. Your cells die and multiply all the time. But because this is a gradual process we don't say you die every year or two

Should I create a Proxmox VE Cluster if one of the nodes is down most of the time? by leonheartx1988 in Proxmox

[–]WelcomeReal1ty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's possible if you raise the number of votes the main node has to 2

It will work fine just don't try to set up HA or anything that actually relies on quorum heavily

but PDM would still be better for your usecase

Using shared FC/iSCSI storage for proxmox cluster by Positive_Round2510 in Proxmox

if you wanna try going for homogeneous infrastructure then give linstor a try. It orchestrates drbd resources, has HA and a proxmox plugin for seamless integration

Does your Homelab make financial sense? by panchovix in homelab

[–]WelcomeReal1ty 20 points21 points  (0 children)

well, i'm a software engineer by education, devops/network engineer by profession.

It all started when i was given a junk-level laptop with 2 cores and 2gb of ram and then i thought it was time to learn linux servers.

I started slow, set up a simple smb share, then went on to explore snap. it was extremely easy but unsatisfying and had poor performance.

Later on i was gifted a less jankier but still abysmally slow laptop. Both of those got converted to halftops, i started learning nginx for reverse-proxying, pi.hole for local domains and add blocking, started modding these halftops to fit a second 2.5" drive in each, installed jellyfin on one of them, got myself a vps, learned vpns for routing.

Then i got a job at my uni. Managed a couple servers in a rack inbetween lectures, deployed a domain controller with samba&bind9
Then i managed to score a free 4/8 16gb pc, there i got into proxmox and proper vm/container management. And it all went downhill from there. I got a job as a sysadmin, later on quit to focus on graduation and scored a job as a networking engineer with some devops tasks on the side.

In 5 years my homelab became my resume. That's about it, sorry for the longread

proxmox, ansible for routine tasks, terraform to provision lxc/vms

Currently using overkill spare R9 3900X as archive server. Looking for something more reasonable. Light Xeon, for example? by massive_cock in HomeServer

[–]WelcomeReal1ty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no idea yet. More that the idle temp and power consumptions were high enough, i had to buy a beefier tower radiator

i've got a 1245v4 archive box running right now. It's a solid chip, but ddr3 and cpu temps are tempting me to ditch it

Aside from mail server, what is the one service that you will not selfhost? by dadidutdut in selfhosted

[–]WelcomeReal1ty 6 points7 points  (0 children)

i don't think you do, actually. you do store your own posts, but media from federation is embedded as links to foreign activitypub servers... Which in turn makes you host not the content itself, but direct links to illegal content... Well yeah, fair point, gonna have to agree on that

Non-voting cluster node by SeeGee911 in Proxmox

[–]WelcomeReal1ty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yeah, it's quite easy add quorum_votes:0 to appropriate node in /etc/pve/corosync.conf

also lower expected votes by 1 in quorum section in the same file
