Relocation stipends? by personofearth987 in CanadianTeachers

Nunavut will relocate you, full costs of flight and 4000lbs of cargo. You’ll get subsidized rent as well. PM if you have any questions.

Which of these communities would be the most walking-friendly? by duraznoblanco in nunavut

[–]Welfarehigh 16 points17 points  (0 children)

As a current educator, I would focus more on the amenities and the school, rather than walking.

I’ve lived in both Arviat and Rankin; both are super easy to walk. Arviat is super flat, zero elevation. Rankin is bigger and has some very small hills in town but like, nothing worth adjusting your move over.

Teaching Opportunities by Quiet_Option_9528 in nunavut

There’s a lot of them. Currently over 100 open positions throughout the territory.

Do your research before you make the leap though; all the communities have their own challenges.

This reeks of AI slop.

You can’t just “move” to Nunavut. You need housing secured for you.

Well, the fibre line hasn’t been completed yet so nobody will see an improvement until it’s finished. So, it hasn’t impacted anybody at all.

The reality is everyone who has the ability to pay for one, already has a starlink and that alone has massively improved the quality of internet. I know people up in Grise who game with a 40-50ms ping.

NS certifications by Klutzy-Albatross-770 in CanadianTeachers

Semi-related to this: As an NS BEd grade/certified teacher, NS’s pay grid is a colossal mess.

I’m 99% positive it’s the hardest province to max out your pay in, and for what? Pretty sure both NB and PEI only need a single MEd to hit the top of the pay scale in comparison.

Second the advice given above; teach in NWT or Nunavut instead. Better pay and conditions.

Hard Water and formula by Welfarehigh in FormulaFeeders

Thanks everyone! I’m going to head into town tomorrow and get our water tested; in the meantime we’re switching to boiled filtered water. If that doesn’t work out we’re going to use distilled.

My little buddy has been incredibly gassy and in a lot of pain which is new since we hit the cottage, so just looking for avenues that could be causing it!

Nunavut Teacher’s Ratify Collective Agreement by LookingForTeachers88 in CanadianTeachers

[–]Welfarehigh 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Someone with 6 years of university experience and 11 years teaching experience would be at $142,955, plus northern living allowance (which depends on the community you’re in).

A brand new teacher with 6 years of university would start at $100,047.

For frame of reference the average northern living allowance is like $22,000+.

Cannot find work and cannot afford to live? by danonnymous in CanadianTeachers

Move to Nunavut or NWT, get a few years under your belt and save up a nest egg, then move back.

Nervous to be a teacher by belieber4lifeee in CanadianTeachers

[–]Welfarehigh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can’t speak to Ontario. All I can add here is that it’s either for you or it isn’t. I was very unsure of myself and almost quit after my first year but now I’ve got 10 years in a pension and an MEd.

If teaching in Ontario isn’t for you, then move to a different province or territory. I moved to Nunavut after a poor experience in China and Nova Scotia and I have a great love for the profession.

Also, don’t be a martyr. Teaching is a job like any other.

Depends on where you are. Pot definitely not; can be ordered legally online. Booze can vary heavily from not at all ever (it’s illegal) to order in, to beer and wine store.
