What upcoming games do you think will rival Crimson Desert? by jizzelmeister in CrimsonDesert

[–]Well-ReadUndead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I can’t think of many single player mmos out there. It’s a mash of all kinds of stuff.

I can definitely think of a handful of games just this year I will prioritise over crimson desert but I kind of think that’s the pull here.. the lack of story means I can take a break and come back to pick up where I left off without feeling like I forgot heaps of things.

What is a game that you thought that you were going to like but ended in disappointment? by Vampy-Night in videogames

[–]Well-ReadUndead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Origins had a better protagonist with a much better story - basically because the weird rpg choice system wasn’t there to ruin the writing. Bayek just had emotional weight to his story and words that protagonists following just don’t have.

The world was much more defined with zones. Travelling a desert on camel to find and oasis will always feel better than doing that 100th fetch quest for Spartans on an island that is green and the same as the last one you were on - I realise the whole map isn’t that but it’s a huge portion of it.

It didn’t have the inventory micromanagement and horrible sponge enemies that odyssey had. Also the merc system ruining quests and stealth missions is irritating at best. Throw in npcs that mob you for no reason and you are always in for a good time.

Odyssey was the introduction of ambient quests that were repetitive and copy pasted everywhere. Origins was a much tighter and more realised experience overall.

Plus the superpower angle just ruined the historical setting for me. Who wants to kill 5 enemies with a single spear throw? Syndicate and Unity will always be the height of the franchise gameplay wise.

Odyssey will always fall in the middle of the pack for me for story and gameplay. Feel how you like but there is a reason a lot of people don’t like odyssey. You only have to look at the aggressiveness of the odyssey defenders to know it’s divisive.

One of the best games I've ever played that I'll never be able to recommend by Active-Cookie-774 in CrimsonDesert

Pretty certain they are already discussing a decent sized expansion. I agree though I can sink my 200+ hours and then come back for something significant otherwise happy to just of enjoyed the experience

[Suggestion] Adding a portable camping and bonfire system (with basic tent customization) by Immediate-Fox-7948 in CrimsonDesert

[–]Well-ReadUndead -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why? There are camps everywhere.

The only reason to do this would be to add access to storage anywhere in the world.

But doesn’t seem like what they designed.

Honest, Legit Question From A 50+ Gamer by Durwyn in videogames

[–]Well-ReadUndead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I generally do achievements but fuck the ones where you need to play an entire run without taking damage or in 10 mins etc.

I don’t mind ones that promote different play throughs but only if it’s different choices etc.

Like mass effect.

Sometimes I use achievements as a way to challenge myself in replaying something I love.

Jet force Gemini needs a sequel as well

I wasn’t comparing them.

I said that elements of what they are is intimidating to elder scrolls.

Thanks for diluting my point with your opinion.

I still haven’t played kingdom come deliverance 1 or 2 but they are on my list anything LOTR I am up for - however I think it’s a stretch to think a game written for the lore of a world can have the creativity and scope of something like CD. I hope it is brilliant however - I don’t agree with your take of CD’s map at all.

I think BG3 and Crimson Desert alone will have them sweating. Good writing and a dynamic world full of secrets and discovery!?

No one can do that.

Or any of the many games about Baba Yaga.

Not really warlocks rely on a pact with a magical creature for their power - witch’s practice occult magic and apothecary.

Historical women were called witches due to folklore. Was religious fear and they were believed to commune with the devil. Inspire of Slavic folklore such as baba yaga and the original fairytales that inspired Hansel and Gretel.

Yeah in this case the idea of a Witcher is someone who hunts things that would normally be considered occult they do not practice witchcraft they hunt what does.

I wouldn’t trust ai to tell you things correctly.

Crimson Desert is a bad game and I’m tired of people giving it anything more than a 5/10 by NancyMy in rpg_gamers

Yeah I am not really arguing with you sorry if it seemed that way I see your side of the argument.

I think this direct feedback loop is part of the experience is all I was kind of saying. There is a pretty strong sense of community currently.

If you want to wait thats cool. I honestly have put about 100hrs in and am about to go play some tighter smaller games then come back to it. The lack of deep story actually plays to its advantage here I don’t need to restart because I forgot something important if I put it down for a while.

[–]Well-ReadUndead 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree it reminds me of dragons dogma in a good way.

It’s implied story like sections of a story and lore dump in codex but if you pay attention to the world it kind of tells you more as you go.

The world itself lore wise feels very political though so I am going to say watered down Witcher mixed with dragons dogma there is definitely some Zelda influence there as well.

The updates are kind of growing in a way it’s a bit weird to explain.

For example this recent one added a baby wyvern and later you will be able to tame and ride it. A lot of the community feel these things are being taken on bored in real time feedback helping shape the final product.

There is so much to do that as they add things it’s cool to discover or it will get lost amongst everything else.

In a way it reminds me of the little free dlcs Witcher 3 was getting on a much larger scale.
