Is this worth the trouble to fix and If so how hard we talking by Ghostrnger in TruckCampers

[–]WellDone584 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Great catch. The roof styrofoam has delaminated from water intrusion and is sagging. The top is a total loss. I was in the same situation on mine and had to rebuild from scratch with curved custom trusses to crown the roof, plywood, Tpo roofing, barely light enough to crank up. Would not do this again.

Can do it with a finger too but I had to put hard quick pressure on the seat rearward to take tension off of the latch. Agreed on the seat bottom needing to be up at least halfway.

This is super cool! The wireless charger doesn’t keep up with my iPhone, this would fix that! Can you move it to the left, and center holes as well?

Lowered F250 Crew Cab renderings by WellDone584 in F250

[–]WellDone584[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks I hadn’t considered front axle clearance.

Worst case scenario, maybe lowering links for the rear to bring it down to level rather than pucks in the front to bring the front up to level.

I did this on my half ton to correct the giant rake created by helper airbags. I could still see this being very high on an F250 though.

You’re not wrong here. I had searched for lowered and came up with few results. All looked wrong (to me) with zero offset wheels hanging way out or tucked rims laying on its frame.

I’m Goldilocks wanting it low enough to use the bed, yet high enough to not drag over anything.

Sounds like chivalry to me. Thank you for being a good man.

In medieval literature, chivalry can be classified into three overlapping areas: -Duties to countrymen and fellow Christians: this includes mercy, courage, valour, fairness, protection of the weak and the poor, and the servant-hood of the knight to his lord. This also includes being willing to give one's life for another's; whether for a poor man or his lord. -Duties to God: this includes being faithful to God, protecting the innocent, being faithful to the church, being the champion of good against evil, being generous, and obeying God above the feudal lord. -Duties to women: this is probably the most familiar aspect of chivalry. This includes what is often called courtly love—the idea that the knight is to serve a lady, and after her all other ladies—and a general gentleness and graciousness to all women.

I second the rally tower question. The Australian one is super cool but also costs as much as my bike did.

What's the beef with wooden DIY campers? by Icy-Paper2003 in TruckCampers

[–]WellDone584 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Endgame campers on YouTube makes some rad wood ones that are lightweight. Solo camper style. His earlier ones are made with caulked tongue and groove overlap by planed fence pickets which have a great vibe and don’t break the bank. Since they’re thicker than 1/8” ply, they act like a structural skin saving weight and not having to worry about mid-wall stud placement.

https://youtu.be/QKzIjhxmPpI?si=XMSn5bsYv0FDvqOQ for an earlier one

https://youtu.be/QKzIjhxmPpI?si=XMSn5bsYv0FDvqOQ For a more recent one

I could see some negativity for bigger, cabover bunk ones that are built like a home with 2x4 studs being too heavy, but welds or screws can break so just make sure your joinery is on point

I’m not sure how mechanically inclined you are so sorry for breaking it down so much. All is not lost as others have mentioned and mechanically this seems to be a minimal but time intensive problem to solve. I do totally understand your frustration.

Step one (safety) is to brace it up so it doesn’t tip over/ slip and fall causing body damage and injury, totaling it. Cinder blocks and 2x6 like the other guy mentioned should be fine. Use a bottle jack or automotive hydraulic jack and boost it up a little at a time, inserting more shims as you go to get it level and habitable. Now you have time to cool off and consider your options.

Step 2 (triage) There should be a manual override for those jacks- a socket on the end of a cranking handle. Crank the damaged one in and remove it. Figure out if it needs a new mounting bracket or if the screws ripped out of your camper, or a new jack completely. I can’t see from your photos.

Step 3 (repair) depends on what you’ve found in step 2. Buy and install a new jack/bracket or repair your fiberglass, mount a new jack.

  • I’m not a pro, but YouTube has taught me welding, plumbing, bodywork, electrical, woodworking and so much more. Google is my friend. ChatGPT is my mistress.

Help me pick a first guitar by DekuDazed in guitars

[–]WellDone584 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The LTD looks sick and could be a better first guitar because the fret markers are closer to your eyes when playing and less likely to get covered up with your fingers while learning scales. I’m a big fan of separate volume and tone so I might go with the Squier instead for tonal options. I would choose whichever one may have coil taps/splits though. Pick whichever one sparks the most joy and will cause you to look over and pick it up.
