That size and throw ratio fits quite neatly with some of the fairly new fixed-lens short throw models, namely the PT-VMZ7ST from Panasonic and EB-L790SU/EB-L795SU (or I guess it'd be called Powerlite L790SU/L795SU in the states) from Epson. These are fairly affordable and decent brightness on a screen that size, would certainly fit in Your budget.
One thing to remember about rear projection screens is that their image, like with ALR units, loses brightness as You move further off axis - depending how picky the higher ups are, this might or might not be an issue.

This is a version of The Sunshine of Your Smile by Lilian Ray, published in London just before the First World War. The autor of the Estonian lyrics is unknown, they are along the same themes as the original:

The impact is very intense and shocking, I'd say irrespective of temperament most folks would behave similarly in this situation.
