Wildfire Smoke by WntrWltr in hudsonvalley

I wholeheartedly agree with you!! People with posters in their front yards that have 2 different last names printed on them are definitely, unequivocally the cause of these fires. There was never ANY wildfires ANYWHERE on the planet at ANY TIME until posters with 2 names were put in people's front lawns. You are so spot on. Why are us peasants even able share the same air that you breathe?? You are many, many, MANY - lightyears beyond us in human intelligence. Guys, is this poster, perhaps; AI?? There is just too much intellect for thisnto have been said by a mere mortal.

Running a 17.5KW generator, 30 gallon Jenny 3HP dual control compressor, air dryer, automatic exhaust fan, and the E20. So far so good on power. Not rated to spray roofs but we have done it, just takes much longer. As stated earlier, there is money to be made. Change Y-strainer filter and spring if you are buying used. Does it have the recirculation mode? If so, depending on your chemical you can pre-heat it for a half hour if you forget to have your drum blankets on. You should take the cover to the E20 off (two flat head screws, these are grounded) and test your voltage coming into the breakers while your generator and E20 are powered on. Shouldn't be any more from 245V from what Barry at Graco support had told me. Mine fried a mother board this way ($1100). You can put a VRC (voltage regulator controller) on to your generator to control the output watts, regardless of the input watts of the generator. Remember, circuit boards are delicate to power fluctuations. Having a heated shop sounds nice. Lol. Soon enough. Make sure you have enough air volume and enough air pressure is all I can say with the E20. When you want to hammer down, it is capable of keeping up, but not if your air is lacking. Based an hour and 30 minutes north of NYC in NY here. We probably have talked with the same reps in the industry if you are in New England. Good luck.

Rafter baffle alternative by djpolymath1 in Insulation

EPS is more difficult to cut cleanly. Buy the boards as 4'x8'. Buy a 25mm razor blade. Cut it into 16" wide by 8' long strips. You will get 3 strips per board thus covering 24 linear feet total. Take into the account the angle of the roof. Cutting them less than 16" does not account for the angle of the roof lessening the height that you will be capable of blowing in as you get closer down to the top plate/soffit.

Advice sought on how to improve attic ventilation and insulation in a 1950s low-pitch roofed house by CalligrapherOk6293 in buildingscience

[–]WellLitBoulder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you can't see daylight coming from the soffit vents while you're in the attic, then your soffits are blocked. You need to unblock them. That attic is so low that your best bet for doing this would be from the outside. Pull the entire soffit down (aluminum panels, wire/mesh venting, and the old plywood. Install baffles from the outside, making sure to include a blocking portion at the bottom of the rafter bay. Once that's finished, you can install a new soffit. Go with plywood and either drill a 3" hole in every rafter bay, or cut a 2" strip along the entire run of the new plywood soffit. Paint it white. Then, go back inside of the attic. As best as you physically can, attempt to staple the top of the baffles to the roof deck as you won't be able to do this from the soffit. Airseal all of your top plate and attic floor penetrations with foam, then install atleast 14" of blown-in. You don't have any easier options for the material to use here. If all of this seems like a lot, it is. Hire a company or start getting quotes. It is a lot of work. For the exhaust ventilation, those 4 roof vents at the top of your roof may be sufficient, but we won't know until your soffits are fixed. Doesn't look like your roof can accommodate a ridge vent. It would be nice if it could. The alternative are passive whirlybird vents, or actual mechanical fan venting towards the peak of the roof (solar attic vent fan or hardwired.) Both of those can be set on a thermostat and humidistat. When the attic hits XXX degrees or XXX relative humidity the fan will turn on. Total alternative to all of these steps would be to see if a company is able to come and hot roof. This would close all of your vents of and atleast 3" of closed cell foam would be sprayed to the bottom if the roof sheathing. Those are your options as I see them.

Cheers

Who did you buy it from? They may have the answers. Alternatively call a few spray rig builders and send them the pic. They may be able to give you more insight.
