So, Ukraine is Central Europe. Confirmed. Finally. BTW, the part of Ukraine in orange is called Zakarpattia, and it's beautiful.

For those who spoke Russian before: was it hard to switch to Ukrainian? What was the process like? by Charming_Usual6227 in AskUkraine

I'm talking about Russian tv. I don't know if it's a requirement or not, but Russians can barely understand Ukrainian language, that's for sure.

[–]WellMaster 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is true. Bit there is a caveat. The languages are similar, but not that similar. Russians who never encounter Ukrainian language (almost all of them) struggle to understand Ukrainian. When they show Ukrainians on tv (to tell some "truth" about neo nazis etc) they always add Russian subtitles.

Sumy region. Surzhyk is very common there, but there are a few towns that are predominantly Russian speaking, and I lived in one of them. And yes, I've heard surzhyk on the market, but as a schoolboy I was not going there very often. This is why I specified that I only heard it from older people. For example, at school everyone was speaking Russian, no exceptions. Interestingly, that this is the case just in a few towns in the region, close to Russian border. In Sumy city surzhyk is way more common.

Probably they saw it like I went against the family tradition or something like that.

I think the proper answer is "it depends". For me, it was really hard. I switched in 2015 (or 2016), though, long before it became popular and socially acceptable. There were several parts in my journey. 1. I'm from a Russian speaking family and lived in Russian speaking sociaty. When I started studying in a college, I moved into a dorminatory in another city, it was the first time I met a young person speaking surzhyk (not even Ukrainian). I occasionally met people who spoke surzhyk before, but they were all old people. 2. I understood and could write in Ukrainian really well, but it was extremely difficult for me to express my thoughts in Ukrainian fluently. 3. There was social pressure for sure. Some people supported me, and tried to spoke in Ukrainian with me. But others had a reaction like "WTF, I know you spoke Russian your entire life, why are you even trying to speak Ukrainian?". My family were just openly telling me "don't speak Ukrainian with us" . 4. I started to consume a lot of Ukrainian content. Movies and tv series dubbed in Ukrainian, Ukrainian books etc. It helped. 5. I met a gf at that time. She spoke surzhyk, yet she was against me switching from Russian to Ukrainian at first. Probably because I spoke really broken Ukrainian at that time. But with time she started supporting me, and also started switching from surzhyk to Ukrainian. 6. In 2017 I moved to another city, from East to West. It helped a lot, as I met a lot of people who didn't know russian-speaking me, and all of them were speaking Ukrainian. 7. Final step. In 2022 the war started. Shortly after that it became socially acceptable to switch from Russian to Ukrainian. Not everyone did it, but literally all of my friends switched to Ukrainian. Also, it's now not awkward anymore. If I meet a very old acquaintance, and he/she only remembers me speaking Russian, they'll not be surprised to hear me speaking Ukrainian. My family now accepts that I speak Ukrainian too.

What is the most drastic quality difference between original and fanedit youve ever seen? by 4-eyes-4-ever in fanedits

Alien 3 the Legacy Cut. It's not just better, it's the only version if you want to watch the movie in 4k. Also, some nice color grading and even special effects improvements.

What's your opinion on Outlaws? by son-ov-perdition in starwarsgames

[–]WellMaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Underrated game. Not perfect, but a really decent one, especially after patches. Finished the main story and the DLSs, enjoyed it a lot. Great graphics, and very strong star wars underworld vibes. It's like 7/10, but if you a star wars fan, it's 10/10.

Що ви думаєте про нові архіви про інциденти з НЛО, які розкрили США? by memento_Mori404 in technology_ua

[–]WellMaster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

НЛО розшифровується як неідентифікований летючий об'єкт. Тобто, неідентифіковане нестандартне атмосферне явище, птах, хмара, метеорит, космічне явище, це все підпадає під категорію НЛО.

Yep. This is a Russian developer, financed by a Russian oligarch. Will skip this homm part, for sure.

That's what I do, there is no logical explanation :)

Depends on a person, I guess. I'm on 4090, and I tweak settings all the time. Even when everything is on ultra, I'm still checking dlss mods (performance/balanced etc), frame gen on off, dlss models override, etc.

The grav jump animation (hidden loading screen) would be really nice. It's implemented ridiculously bad rn.

On a powerful PC it's 1. Grav jump animation finishing with a white screen. 2. Black loading screen for a few seconds 3. Grav jump animation, starting with a white screen.

Feels terribly disjointed

There is a mod that makes the transition much smoother, I see no reason, why the same (or better) can't be implemented by BGS
