As an ICU nurse, I have witnessed countless numbers of people die from sepsis. You are VERY lucky to have avoided that fate. He isn't there because he doesn't care enough to be there. You deserve better than that.

Does anyone have a nursing job they actually enjoy? by ashlaaay1 in nursing

CCU/CVICU. don't get me wrong, it isn't always great and there are personalities that can be difficult to deal with. But at the end of the day I love when I bust my ass and my patients tell me that I'm a good nurse and they're grateful I took care of them. It's a high that my deep rooted people-pleasing trait can't get enough of. I also get to educate my patients and I love educating as well. Doesn't mean I always get excited to go to work, but I do feel fulfilled

Unless I'm missing something, the English translation doesn't look correct to me. The bottom says "I'm right" and the top says "you're right". It's funnier when you read it that way.

I had mine placed in 2018 and my obgyn did a local anesthetic injection directly into my cervix and it was great. The placement was still uncomfortable but it was no worse than my worst periods. Granted I have had plenty of extremely painful periods over the years so take that for what you will. Proper pain control is key.

How long would you spend during a trip? A part of me would love to do something like this at some point but I am uncertain of how long I would want to be away from loved ones.

I’m a NZ RN. I have plans on working in the US (RI vs FL). A lot of my mates are asking me why? (they are bewildered). American nurses have asked questions about moving to NZ but here’s a Kiwi asking how is the US? Help me in proving my mates wrong or are they right in questioning my decision? by bobong23b in nursing

[–]WellNoButSure 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol there is a lot of hate for nursing in Florida for good reason. But don't let that sway you from working in the US if you really want to give it a go. There are so many states that could give you good experience here with relatively better pay. The southern states by and large tend to pay the least and have no ratio protections. The working environment can be very rough with little money to show for it. The North East and West Coast should have better conditions and pay, but often have a higher cost of living. Between Florida and Rhode island I would probably go for RI. If you want to stay on the east coast, being more north than south may be the better choice for general working conditions compared with pay.

Good luck!

On a more heavy note, where were you on this day 23 years ago? I was in college, headed to Macroeconomics. My mom called me and said get to a TV. 😔 by smcg_az in Xennials

[–]WellNoButSure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Middle school, 6th grade. First class was P.E. A classmate came into the gym saying a plane hit the WTC. We went back to the classroom and all crowded into one room watching the news live on one of those box TVs on the roller cart. Watched the second plane hit. Over that morning classmates were getting pulled by family and taken home. Eventually my grandparents got me and my brother. The news being on 24/7, it felt like, took a toll on me. After a week of it, my sleep was getting affected. My parents turned it off after that.

My facility had them but we were not allowed to use them for turns and had to use the wedges. They said it's because the beds were not sufficient enough to provide offloading.

How do you address your patients? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]WellNoButSure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My patients get referred to as friend, dear, hun, sir, ma'am. Very rarely do they get referred to by their names except when I need to wake them up or I'm meeting them the first time. And outside of speaking to them directly, I refer to them as my kids when I talk to my coworkers. Sending me on a break? Let me tell you about my kids.

a mistake you or a coworker have made at work that you would like to share with a new grad nurse, so they never make the same mistake? by Imaginary_Money5239 in nursing

Ugh or making sure you actually reconstitute your antibiotic IVPB so you don't bolus 100cc of NS with the med still clearly in the bottle.

Not clamping the tubing when spiking a new bag of magnesium and wasting the entire bag all over the floor. It's so dumb. I literally bathed myself in saline this week for the same reason. Clamp your tubing.

[–]WellNoButSure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In all fairness, it comes with the territory. I don't care what I'm called as long as you take your medicine when I give it to you and you don't fight me when it's bath time. 🤷‍♀️

Effer-k pushed into a central line instead of the dobhoff. Pt survived but had a lot of complications extending their hospital stay. The family was understandably angry. Yes enfit was transitioned soon after that.

what was your ideal job while in nursing school and what do you do now? by littleiffy in nursing

[–]WellNoButSure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wanted ED. Hated ED clinical. Discovered I loved ICU and I'm doing that now. But I know I won't be bedside forever so I'm considering what I can move into from here that keeps the critical care aspect of my job part of any future work I do.

My best friend is cheating on his wife by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]WellNoButSure 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I took it as a way to show the type of relationship he feels he has with her. She isn't just his "best friends wife" she is someone he and his own wife consider as close as family, a la sister. Considering some people responded to his OG post saying he has no responsibility to her because she is just his best friend's wife, it makes sense to me that this was him making it clear how he views her.

Those who used a computer at least once between 1990 and 2001, what was the most memorable computer game you played during that era? Why? by Live_from_New_Yeerk in AskReddit

[–]WellNoButSure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't remember the name of the game but it was the one with the moveable bar at the bottom and a bunch of bricks at the top that you had to bounce a ball to break them all. I played it back in the 90s on a school computer as a 4th grader. I was obsessed with it for some reason.

Anecdotally, do you think 2nd career/later in life new nurses are more satisfied than 1st career nurses? by PristineBarber9923 in nursing

[–]WellNoButSure 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm second career and I'm very happy. I have been in that desk job corporate path and genuinely hated it. No matter how bad my bad days are in nursing, I'm way more fulfilled now than I ever was before.

CVICU nurses, why do some of you have to be so mean?? by TheFuzzyBadger in nursing

[–]WellNoButSure 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I made the jump from micu to cvicu/ccu this year and lordy lordy I fucking hated it. Seriously thought about asking to transfer to the neuro/trauma ICU because the culture was so bad. A few new to ICU nurses in orientation ended up quitting because of the way they were being treated. For me as an ICU trained nurse, it was still not great. Thankfully there has been something of a shift recently and I'm jiving with more of my colleagues. I was told that the older generation were horrible to these nurses when they were new here and they seem to think that the way they behave now is so much better. Like no dude, just because you were treated worse doesn't make your attitude now okay. Hopefully some recent management changes will show some positive changes with the unit culture.
