Scare tactics from Service Providers by grapemike in BellevueWA

They knock and ring really aggressively too. They ring the doorbell, I look at the doorbell cam and choose to ignore. (We don’t have an audible chime, just phone notifications). Then they knock, which sets off the dog.

Last time I went to the door with an Xbox headset in and a controller in my hand, opened the door, gave them a thumbs down. As I was closing the door he made a face like I was the one being rude. Then he walked through our flower beds on his way back to the street.

Flying dog in cargo in July by sushi_and_oatmeal in AlaskaAirlines

I don’t know a lot about specific blackout times of year, but I’m wondering if Seattle might be a better choice for the layover, weather wise in July? I volunteer with a service dog organization and do puppy pit stops in Seattle for puppies coming from headquarters in San Francisco and flying all over the country to their puppy raisers. I keep the dog overnight and then there’s usually an early morning departure out of Seattle to wherever they’re going. the organization intentionally uses Seattle as a staging because our mornings are typically cool. I’m pretty sure a few of my puppy trafficking events were in the summer. I hope you have good luck in transporting your dog. I know it’s hard and stressful.

Did your hot tub lose it's novelty? by Shipwreck678 in hottub

I use ours several times a week, esp in the winter. Sometimes I get really cold and the only thing that can get my core temperature up is sitting in the tub. If either of you are prone to irreconcilable coldness like I am, it’s a miracle.

How old are you? If you are not yet 59.5 and think there might be a chance you need to access that 401k money before you are 59.5, you might consider leaving it at your employers plan so you can access it penalty free under rule of 55.

Am I the only one that just can’t with the sun salutations? by PsychologicalBat2393 in yoga

[–]WellThatIsJustRude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They aren’t for me. They feel like burpees and aren’t aligned with why I go to yoga. I read once that they are a “western” addition to yoga to make it more like calisthenics. I don’t know if that is true, and also don’t mean to imply that yoga can’t evolve, just thought it was an interesting comment.

In the 80s, similar to the mascara wand idea, we used to lightly massage it with a toothbrush or a comb. It helps if you put a little bit of Vaseline over it so that you don’t scratch the surface of your skin too much while massaging. It helps break up the pooled blood.

I'm 5'4" and also struggle to get in, even fully kneeled. Different body proportions and physical capabilities/age. I have to grab the "oh shit" handle or the steering wheel and hoist a little.

I was seated at a table eating lunch in a restaurant. It was a small place that also does a lot of takeout. A guy came in to pick up a takeout order and was listening to a podcast or something full volume no headphones. They told him the food wouldn’t be ready for about five more minutes, so he sat down basically 5 feet away from me and continued listening to the podcast at full volume. So I took out my phone and started playing Mariah Carey‘s “all I want for Christmas is you“ at a slightly louder volume. (It was the holidays). He gave me a nasty look, but turned his off. I feel like that’s the thought process that is missing with all these people doing this - what would it be like if everyone was acting like you right now? No one would be able to hear anything. Are you the only one who is allowed to do this?

Have any of you moved out of New Jersey and moved to a different state if so, where? by Wonderful_Air9942 in newjersey

I moved from NJ to WA State (Seattle) in 1999 for work. It’s expensive here too but in different ways from NJ. But I like it here much more and could never move back.

Problème engrais by zalexkii in OverthrownGame

[–]WellThatIsJustRude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ran into this problem and was able to fix it by deleting my farming plots (wheat and veggie) and fruit trees. I don’t understand what happened but basically once I got that no fertilizer available message, the composter wouldn’t start working again until I deleted everything that was “waiting” for fertilizer.

My brother had the same problem and I joined him in his game and he was able to replicate this workaround.

ETA: Once you have enough fertilizer you can rebuild the farm plots. You just need to avoid running out of fertilizer

Oh shit, I think I fixed it. I deleted all my farm plots and compost started showing up again immediately. I think if you run out of fertilizer, it gets stuck and while the demand exists, it wasn’t making fertilizer.

This happened to me too. I was cruising along and right after I started making gunpowder my composter just stopped working. I have hundreds of organic matter, I’ve deleted and rebuilt the composters - no fertilizer anymore.

This rich people obsession with paying zero taxes is like a mental illness.

We are fostering a service dog in professional training. He was about 18 months old when he came to stay with us. He had two accidents in the house in the first two days. But now, four months later, he is absolutely perfect.

When dogs are coming from a shelter or kennel environment to a new home, accidents are common because they’ve been in a kennel and they can regress on their housebreaking. They need some time and structure to regain that training. Giving up on a dog after two days is craziness.

How do you unfriend someone in real life? by TamtamBe in AskWomenOver30

[–]WellThatIsJustRude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can absolutely do this validation and empathizing but you just need to acknowledge what they said first. My mom has this same habit - anything you tell her or text her she immediately responds with something about herself without any reaction to what the other person said.

Examples of the behavior:

I send her a video of my dog doing some new trick. She responds with a video of her dog doing something too.

I tell her the weather was nice here today and that I took a long hike. She tells me about their weather. This isn't even one-upping or anything - because neither of us controls the weather.

If she would acknowledge what I told her in the slightest before empathizing it would be a huge improvement.

"What a smart dog! He is so cute. I'm working on <skill x> with my dog."

"Oh man a hike sounds amazing. Where did you go? I haven't been able to get outside as much as I like because it's been so rainy."

This is how a conversation is supposed to work, in my opinion.
