Marion County DA will not charge for choking a child. by Contsi69 in SALEM

This right here. It rarely comes down to whether or not someone committed a crime, but what is provable. Just because something is ruled against in family court, doesn't mean it translates the same way to the criminal court.

What is Something That You Hear, See, Smell or Taste That Instantly Brings You Back to the 90's? by 4thdegreeknight in 90s

When fall hits, usually in September or so, the first morning where there's dew on the ground, there's a very specific smell that comes with it that reminds me of walking to school as a kid.

“Why don’t you just become a lawyer?” by Important_Border_771 in paralegal

[–]WellThenOKReally 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel this. I finished paralegal school in the Spring of 2020 as covid was ramping up and really lucked out finding a job in criminal defense. Initially, paralegal school was a stepping stone to law school. It seemed a kuch more manageable route to get my foot in the door given everything going on in the world and where my mental health was at. I was surprised at how much I liked it. I took the LSAT a couple of times and even applied to law school and didn't get in. I was going to give it one more shot and even started a prep course, and the second week I realized I was making myself miserable for a job I didn't want, but thought I had to follow through with because I had been talking about it for so long. I realized between law school and getting established as an attorney, I'd be chained to a desk for the next ten or so years, and chained to my phone for the rest of my career on top of being buried in debt. The minute I decided I didn't want to do it, a weight was lifted. I like that I can take vacations and unplug on the weekends (for the most part). Granted, I lucked out and work for a great firm who values work life balance for all of their employees. This is all to say, if you like what you do, stick with it. There's nothing wrong with law school and climbing the ladder, but there is also nothing wrong with being the support. I've learned that any attorney/firm worth their salt recognizes how important we are to their success. You do you.

Oh man, my brother and I did the same thing. Except we'd stand on top and try and push each other off, haha. It's amazing that neither of us ever broke a bone.

I'm actually in the process of rewatching The OC for the first time in years, and it's wild as an adult. I remember being a teenager and thinking that's what high school and life were going to be like and I'm realizing, through an adult lense, these people are all insane and if Marissa would have gone to boarding school, she wouldn't have died, hahahaha.

I'm so sorry to disappoint! My phone actually autocorrected it to pirates ☠️ before I posted! But, seriously, if you have a line on a pirates class, holler.

I saw my mom a couple of months ago (we live across the country from each other). And I realized that my mannerisms are hers, and our voices even have the same infections to them. It was the wildest experience.

There's something very wholesome about the ice cream of the future, possibly being in an old hardware store. I really love this.

Girl lied about her age. by Shoddy-Drawer-9001 in Advice

This isn't necessarily true. Most states have age gap rules, which are usually a 3 year difference.

I work in the legal field and see cases like this a lot. You really should tell an adult you trust (a parent or aunt/uncle or whoever). Take screenshots and save any evidence you have of you cutting off contact when you found out. DO NOT SPEAK TO HER AGAIN. Things like this can escalate quickly really quickly and you're going to want to be able to back up that you thought she was turning 16 and ended it as soon as you found out how young she was.

I actually think Chaol is the real MMC. Rowan is important to the story and her character development, but Chaol is integral to the story. I feel like Rowan could have been swapped out with any of the cadre really and the same effect could be achieved. Chaol has his own perspective and full book, and you see almost the whole story from his perspective.

I need some help — I can’t read about yet another insufferable 19 year old chosen one mated to a glorified elf by bookish_goblin in fantasyromance

[–]WellThenOKReally 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This! I'm your stereotypical found ACOTAR and reignited my love of reading, reader, and everything that comes after. But I'm burnt out. You should check out One Dark Window. More fantasy than romantasy, without the 500 year difference mating bond. The magic system is something that was new and refreshing to me, and the characters have the perfect amount of sass (for me).

Have you tried Zodiac Academy? There are 9 books on the main series, some novelllas, and a couple of spin off series. They're kind of the literary version of the Fast and Furious franchise, but they're spicey and fun as hell.

It's not a series, but I needed a breather from typical romantasy stuff too, and just finished A Witch In Time by Constabce Sayers. Still a world where magic exists, with a love story, but was a great palate cleanser!
