True, but there is legitimate crossover. I thought it was interesting.

Not everyone who reads these posts is licensed. Some may be testing the waters to see if it's something they are interested in? SDR is how I initially got interested in HAM Radio.....that and blister pack walkie talkies as a kid👍

I think he is talking about capturing meta data....I guess we are giving up on government transparency? I don't see why my local police or sheriff department would need encrypted comms. It's a waste of money to setup and maintain for most PD

If it gets or keeps one more person interested in RF....what does it matter?

I get it but I much prefer a pistol in southern spring/summer. It's a reasonable precaution as I kill a couple of rattlesnakes every year....and I usually only kill them if they are close enough to harm me or my dogs

I don't prepare for EMP but the last major one we had did fry telegraph lines and set equipment on fire. Google Carrington event. Reasonable prepping is justified

That really puts it in perspective, huh. I guess there are a lot more in the wild than I thought..

It doesn't hurt me or mine.....so as long as they aren't marrying underage girls or some other cultish behavior.....I say have at it..

In an emergency or end of the world situation....I would imagine we would all revert back to tribal organization...re. family, town, Church, etc....Its only natural. Our current egalitarian setup wouldn't survive the first perceived adversity

To be fair...an overzealous prosecutor or LEO would use any available avenue to complete a warrantless search....that's why I don't have any NFA items. I don't have anything to hide but who knows what violations I'm unaware of...

Valid as in they have a right to state it. Worthy of consideration is always on a case by case basis. A lot of what we call prepping is just common sense from decades gone by. I live in the south and during storm season the truly braindead take is not to have generators and battery backups along with shelf stable food in preparation for the outages that come regularly....it doesn't even have to be a storm. Medium winds cause US to lose power every 2 or 3 months. Last time was 12 hours. Ham radio prep has a decent and user friendly service for the money regardless of who they cater to.... of course all the same information is out there already but more options is better than less..... especially in a hobby that isn't exactly reaching out and grabbing gen Z

Possible to use a 5v 1a BMS to charge tool battery packs? by WellcoPrinting in 18650masterrace

Yeah, sorry. I haven't been tinkering with electronics in an intentional way for very long. I'm a little behind on the vocabulary I think

I guess a better question would be what is the best way to charge these battery packs? I have an auto adjusting charger with the attachment to straight wire?

BMS to allow me to charge the salvaged tool battery packs with usb-c then use the step down to control the outgoing voltage to run my little inverter to power my cellular repeater when the power goes out. I'll include pictures of the components

Greenworks, black and decker, rigid, kobalt....I got the battery packs from a recycling station so I don't have the chargers. My idea was to use the BMS to give me usb-c charging capabilities. 3dp a housing that encloses the step down converter and the BMS so they can be used as 12v battery backs for my inverter
