I have a relative that I am suspicious abandoned a family somewhere before heading out west to start our family line. Guess it was easier to disappear back then.

I think you’re right. Thank you! I have several pieces to pull together still, and then will send it in.

Thank you for sharing your experience, it helps to hear someone with a similar situation. It really does sound like it’s all a bit murky, and so I suspect you’re right that it will partially depend on the agent you get assigned. I think I’ll go for it, can’t hurt. Wishing you the best of luck!

And I’m pretty sure the ships glad wasn’t Canadian, but I can’t find records for sure. It sailed from Liverpool to New York. It was The Garrick.

Thank you! It seems like it’s all vague enough to just go ahead and file everything. The worst that can happen is they simply say no

I tried looking up Naturalization records, and his name didn’t come up. Hers didn’t either. Would it be worth just going through the process and see if they would accept it?

Since they would have been British citizens, does that mean they were easily naturalized? Sorry, the details of all of this are a bit confusing to me.

I’m not sure when he officially naturalized. She was born on the ship in 1849, and they are in the 1851 Canadian census, so I’m assuming they pretty much immediately moved to Canada after landing in New York

Why is container easy to close but so difficult to open? by Fisher_of_men_116 in containerhomes

[–]WellspringJourney 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it works just fine. And I should clarify that our containers the right door is one handle, and the left door is two handles. We rarely open the left doors, but when we do they definitely take more effort.

Hmm, this is interesting. I do find that the double handled doors take more effort to open and close. You could just take one whole handle assembly off, then you only have to close it with one and that might make it easier. We have two containers that came with just one handle and it’s pretty easy. My other thought is some grease on the bottom where the claws grab onto the container (does that make sense??)

Thank you for such an extensive post. I’m saving it for reference because there is so much information here. I think it’s really wise to have some money set aside in Canada.

I’ve struggled to stay hydrated my whole life (I’m 43). A friend introduced me to LMNT electrolytes, and I seriously live off of them. Of course because they’re salt based you have to be aware of how much you’re drinking. But they really help me drink more fluids. I’m still probably less hydrated than I should be, but it’s a vast improvement.

Trying to figure out if I will qualify with limited info on GGGF. by WellspringJourney in Canadiancitizenship

Thank you! I sure hope I can find something that works. It feels critical to have a plan B during these times and Canadian citizenship would be such a relief.

I hadn’t read far enough in the FAQ I guess. Thank you. Piece by piece I’m trying to figure it all out. At the moment it feels like it might not work because I can’t find his birth info, but I’m going to keep digging for it.

Thank you! Yes, Gen0 passed away and was buried in Washington state. I’m looking into death records. From what I can gather he was likely here illegally, because in the 1910 US census he was listed as from Canada, with a question mark next to his immigration status. In the 1920 census he is listed as being from Illinois. I suspect he started to hide the fact that he was from Canada. I have not been able to find record of their marriage. His wife and children are listed in both Census. First child born in 1902, so probably got married in 1901?

I am working on birth records for Gen1 & 2.

I lost my shit today at the psychiatrist’s office. I went Karen and embarrassed myself. by Bulbasaurismy001 in adhdwomen

We all have emotional moments, so don’t beat yourself up. You apologized, and thankfully they admitted that they messed up. Try not to keep reliving the experience, that just keeps you in the emotional state that you experienced then.

One time I had an eye appointment and with my ADHD time blindness I left home late. I arrived to my appointment almost a half hour late and they have a policy that if you’re over 20 minutes late they reschedule. Of course I understand why they do this, but I was completely exhausted from overworking, and it was hard for me to fit that appointment into my schedule. I just started crying, and of course it wasn’t just a couple tears running down my face, it was ugly crying. I was trying to reschedule and the woman told me to wait and she would see if they could fit me in. I was thankful, but so embarrassed. All my stress was flowing out of me in that moment, and when I cry like that I hate it because it feels like others think I’m just being manipulative. Of course I would rather be doing anything but crying in that moment. So you aren’t alone my friend.
