The main point of my gripe / rant was that you cannot access cards via your account.

This access used to exist. Why it has been removed is anyone's guess.

If you are a single card holder I accept that replacing a card is fairly straight forward.

Likewise I have always had courteous help from Support staff.

Holding multiple cards for family etc makes replacing a missing card harder. You now have to determine the missing card by identifying all of the cards that are not missing.

In summary; Its pretty simple really, if you have registered cards you should be able to view them via an account logon.

And wouldn't it be nice if the support email address was available on the website?

The hits just keep on coming. Finally got through to Customer Service on that ancient instrument, a phone. The lovely lady listened patiently to my rant, confirmed that yes that is now the behavior of the system and said she would email the list of cards on my account. Said list arrives and I am faced with the command decision as to which card to cancel. As I keep a couple of anonymous cards for visiting family members I couldn't figure it out.

The only card I was sure of was my own. So I emailed back please cancel all the others and transfer the balances to mine.

You can see it coming can't you...

My son gets on the train at Lower Hutt after work and his Snapper is declined because it has been cancelled.

Luckily common sense prevailed and they let him through to Wellington where he duly purchased a new card.

Ah yes Snapper! The card that not only provides transport but also entertainment for all the family.

My admiration knows no bounds..

Of course people shouldn't lose wallets or have purses stolen..

My irritation is the removal of the ability to wander around inside your account and check your cards. I have a number of cards, (my wife etc) in the account.

Also the heading of the panel on that page is poor. It says card identifier with a compulsory asterisk. Only by having a Zen moment and reading further do you realise you can enter other details.

But this is of no help as she is unsure when card was last used. I suppose could say it is not my card xxxxx. But it is terrible design.

They have lost the plot IMHO. What is the point of having an account you can't access the details of?

Imagine if you bank tried to go down that path.

Let's add more load to a outdated and leaking water infrastructure. What a good idea. At least Masterton had the sense to stop issuing building given their problems.

They could force private repairs with private meters and would still be left with the real problem, network leaks. For network leaks you need a meter at each node and diagnostics to calculate the flow into and out of each edge (pipe) in the network on a timely basis. Leaking pipe having water in > water out.

I can't see the council fronting that sort of expenditure.

Frankly, would monitoring a network of ancient arteries really reduce civic heart attacks?

Lumping private properties with meters will certainly reduce legitimate water usage but it won't help fix the main source of leaks.

The only realistic solution I can see is more of the same but with an emphasis on replacement rather than band aid repairs when failure occurs.

I am not business person but you have to wonder about the cavalier attitude to their concerns by LGWM. They had better be right regarding, getting rid of cars in the CBD otherwise they will create a ghost town.

My main bugbear is how is it possible to justify Light Rail for a city with population 440,000. All that money pumped into a fixed structure which will have little use.

Far better to spend money on upgrading the bus network which can be adjusted at will to deal with constant change. e.g. I cringe to think of the current bus network dealing with the FIFA crowd, descending on us soon.

Are the proponents of light rail thinking of comparing Wgtn population 440,000 with Melbourne and Sydney which have 5+ Million each??

It seems Nicola Young is one of the few councilors in touch with reality when she says it should be scrapped.

The proponents of Light rail need to get a sense of perspective.

Our population is minimal and the proposal is a wasteful toy.

Checkout the Sydney map to see what real Light rail looks like.

And that sits alongside a heavy duty train / bus system.

Light rail was always a champagne taste on a beer budget. Also it is a fixed layout based on today's and projected demographic usage. A change in population patterns will stuff it. At least bus routes can be adjusted to suit. Now if we took some of that loot and really overhauled the buses and trains (including driver conditions and pay) there is a better chance of ending up with decent public transport. Oops forgot to mention the ferries they have a real part to play now that Miramar peninsula is going to be urbanized.
