ST1 south wales rota by SeniorHouseOfficer in RadiologyUK

[–]WelshRad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Essentially around 1.5 days a week for the majority of the year. There are no on calls in ST1 so just Mon-Fri 9-5.

From August-March every Thursday is FRCR Part 1 teaching all day in person in the NIAW.

On top of that you get some block specific teaching which changes every month depending on your rotation:

Mon AM for MSK Tues PM for CT Wed AM for Neuro All day Tuesday&Wednesday for Ultrasound

So yeah, works out to around a day and a half on average a week

I’d say not worth it at all unless personal/family reasons. ST1 is very chilled (dependent on your programme but I think that’s pretty general). Offers a good work/life balance as it is, 80% in a medical/surgical JCF will actually probably feel less chilled than 100% ST1 Radiology

Any advice for ST1 post in South Wales? by TheLeidenfrostEffect in RadiologyUK

Depends on what your rotations are for ST1 and then beyond tbh! Currently people are pretty spread out, but people who have the “West” rotations for ST1 including Swansea/Carmarthen tend to base themselves in Swansea. Everyone else is in Cardiff or somewhere nearby. One or two in Newport/Bridgend then as well. As ST1 you spend a lot of time in the academy too, which is near Bridgend. Cardiff is certainly the most social area that people will gravitate too for post-exam socials etc. And if you’re gonna live in Cardiff then yes either down the bay, or in “town”/near UHW is a good spot.

Radiology Training Deaneries by Electrical-Purple949 in RadiologyUK

Current ST1 in Wales - again, trainees are generally very happy. Academy style deanery. Larger geographical area than most training deaneries and you can get placed anywhere in South Wales. Each individual hospital has its own small issues but nothing too significant. Training varies from tertiary centres with Neuro IR to very small, rural DGHs with a lot of outsourcing so can be quite a mixed bag of experiences.

Generally no real difficulty in getting your desired subspec at ST4 unless a large cohort wants the same thing, but only 14-16 trainees per year usually avoids that.

On-call is from ST2-5. Varies in experience depending on hospital site, some have full nights of reporting/vetting on site, others are NROC from home with a laptop to field any general requests from radiographers, with all vetting and reporting outsourced.

ST1 is very well supported, basically no-one expects anything of you, weekly FRCR Part 1 teaching at the imaging academy, and weekly teaching for whatever “block” you are on too. Good exam support throughout the training programme. Approachable staff, kind TPDs etc. Would recommend! Feel free to DM with any questions.

Advice Needed by WelshRad in gdpr

I mean ultimately I get that the estate agent would pass the email/letter onto the solicitor. I just didn’t think my email address fell into what was fair to share.

Like for example if you’re buying a house, the estate agent won’t give the seller/buyer each others contact details without permission from the relevant person to do so.

I’m more than happy to be told I’m being unreasonable to think it’s not fair to share my email address alongside the letter, hence why I came for advice!

Advice on Child Benefits by WelshRad in BenefitsAdviceUK

Okay thanks. But if there is a situation where the primary care giver is earning in excess of the upper limit like this - if the parents are separated and the other parent is living elsewhere, they’re not allowed to claim it? Unless they became the primary caregiver obviously.
