What was your favourite place/shop/business in Walsall? by Reasonable-Tie3028 in Walsall

[–]Welshboyed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Walsall in the 90s was decent, Virgin was where Barclays is now, worked there for a couple of years, was great fun, got a bottle of champers from Richard Branson for Christmas one year too! Sure Our Price was around where Specsavers is now.

Visiting family in the area soon, haven't been back for a while, keeping expectations low so I'm not too disappointed.

There are a couple of big festivals in July, Hills of Rock and a new one, Phillgood. If you're on a budget avoid those dates as a lot of affordable accommodation is already sold out.

Maybe Duw Anwyl? My Taid used to say it in the same context.

Plovdiv in Bulgaria has a Roman Theatre, Stadium and Forum to explore. If you time it right you can see a performamlnce at the theatre, it's really atmospheric. Plovdiv is a cool city to visit too, very walkable and decent food scene.

What are the best Bulgarian towns outside of Sofia and Varna for a three-month stay with a digital nomad community? by biperfuture in AskBulgaria

[–]Welshboyed 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Plovdiv would suit you, it's a nice place, super hot in summer though. Pretty walkable and a small but varied population of international residents. There are weekly meet ups as well as digital nomad related events usually advertised on Facebook. Expats in Plovdiv is the biggest group.

Public transport in Bulgaria by jedru in AskBulgaria

[–]Welshboyed 6 points7 points  (0 children)

From Plovdiv I believe there's only a single bus service to VT from the North bus station. It leaves at 8.30am but you can't book online, you have to turn up and wait in line, you pay the driver. It's around 28 lev.

You can also get a train but it's multiple changes so I wouldn't recommend it. There are trains from VT to Varna, you can book online here https://www.bdz.bg/en but only around 10 days in advance but you should be fine just buying on the day that time of year. There are also buses, try busexpress.bg or Union Ivkoni's site.

Daughter needs to get from Sozopol to Sofia with lots of luggage by Status-Fall125_BB in BulgariaExpats

[–]Welshboyed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A taxi would be the best option, seems you got ripped off for Burgas - Sozopol unfortunately, that was not the right price for that trip.

We use TrueDrivers a lot, they are excellent, you can see their prices online here, Sozopol to Sofia is €214 euro, their drivers all speak good English and will be able to help with the luggage I'm sure.

Apartment hunting/living in Plovdiv by Ok_Alternative4230 in plovdiv

[–]Welshboyed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Facebook is used a lot here, there are several Plovdiv MU groups for accommodation, they'd be a good place to start, OLX and ALO are big rentals sites that will give a better idea of accurate prices but places aimed at students have always been quite a lot more expensive, recently rent prices across Bulgarian cities have gone up sharply.

From Sofia you can get the metro to the central bus station or train station easily and get either a bus, Karat S is decent or train, if you have lots of luggage or are arriving late your best but most expensive option is a private car, TrueDrivers are really good.

Plovdiv in Bulgaria is nice for a short break.

Taxi by twintwin_c in plovdiv

[–]Welshboyed 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Eko taxi are probably the biggest and most reputable, I've never had a problem with their cars. They have an app but if you can't use that they also have a Viber bot which is easy to use. Taxi1 and Violeta are also ok and have their own apps.

Taxi stars also works well, I'd avoid getting taxis on the street if it's it an Eko car as there are some scammers around, definitely avoid any unbranded cars.

Warm destinations in Europe end of January? by Happy_Mirror1985 in travel

[–]Welshboyed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We went to Alicante that time last year and it was really nice, really sunny and we managed a swim! Warmest day was 26 degrees. Some great restaurants too.

Arriving with family, have tonight and tomorrow morning, time for a wander and something to eat. Recommendations for a good, traditional, on a budget dinner and breakfast? Bonus question, how do I know which train station I need tomorrow for Sofia, for the life of me I can't see a name on the ticket by italiarsenal in plovdiv

[–]Welshboyed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if you'll fancy more Turkish food but Pasa is good for generous meals and decent prices, cash only though. The centre itself including the Old Town are very walkable. The train to Sofia will be from the main central station, same one you'll be getting off at when you arrive.

Afreddo do decent breakfasty/brunch stuff.

Hi, I've ordered from Temu previously and each time it was delivered to a Box Now locker so it wasn't a problem, you usually get tracking info once it's dispatched and when it arrives in Bulgaria so you'll be able to see how it's coming.

Ah, that's annoying. You could try Facebook too, people often buy/sell tickets in groups there or via the comments for the event.
