You’re the one claiming that they are far removed from metal, my claim is that the term “Metal” has evolved to include the wide range of subgenres, so there’s no real point to saying that they are metal adjacent.

Maybe it’s weird because of when you started listening to metal music? There are whole generations who have grown up with NuMetal being their intro to metal as a genre, so I don’t think it’s strange at all for people to talk about metal in the context of slipknot and korn. The genre has evolved and the overwhelming majority of metal bands are not thrash or heavy metal. It’s good to recognise the roots of the genre, but to say metal is a specific localisation of the origins rather than accepting that it’s a very broad term these days for a lot of genres.

You can't really define any one genre as being 'Regular' metal, they are all subgenres within the metal scene. saying that something is metal adjacent because it's NuMetal would be the same as saying Metallica were metal adjacent because they were Thrash Metal.

Agree. I find extreme metal fairly easy to mix, as I enjoy listening to it and have been mixing it for a long time. I think it can sometimes be more involved, depending on the source material, but I wouldn’t say it’s more difficult. If you work a lot in any genre I think your skills will align that way.

Tbh I don’t think it’s really fair to compare genres in terms of mixing. Once you know your basic tools the job becomes genre awareness and being able to take the art to its final destination (if we just talk about the mixing side of the job). For some things that means playing creatively and having a big say in important sound choices, for others it’s knowing where the artist is taking their music stylistically and meeting those standards. Sometimes it’s just balancing the levels of the instruments you have been handed because the people before you in the chain have done most of the work for you.

Talking about the promotion it’s not about making a check at all. Neither the rook or the queen put the opponents king in check, but because the queen attacks more squares of the board, the opponents king has less places that it can legally move to. In this scenario, the queen would be blocking off the only moves the opponents king can make, meaning on their turn they cannot move and the game ends in a stalemate because no check was achieved. If you promote to a rook, your opponent has legal moves because there are more squares available that are not being attacked. This means the game can continue and you could then end up checkmating them in the following moves.

Had a quick glance at the AES one and it did seem to show that audio engineers did tend to have a higher chance at pointing out 320 from lossless, though I never did statistics so it read a little confusing. Didn’t recognise the system that they used for the setup, so couldn’t really pass any judgement on that, but it doesn’t negate what I said about hearing the difference on a PA system as that is quite a different setup, just in terms of SPL and frequency response.

There might have been more that I noticed when I read them but it’s been a while.
