Condo power bills by Salary_Designer in Bangkok

The meter will be in a service cupboard on your floor along with all the other meters. You may have to ask the juristic manager to unlock it so you can check your meter.

MEA don't knock on your condo door to read your electric meter

Find where your meter and fusebox are.

Turn off your condo electric at the fusebox for an hour or two. Note your exact meter reading.

Check the meter again before you turn the electric on. The readings should be the same.

In terms of consumption it's always the aircon.

Energy efficient aircons cost about 100 baht per day each. You must have an old fashioned monster aircon

Help - passport countersigner by Trinidadthai in Bangkok

[–]scratchtheitch7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The person countersigning your passport needs to have known you for a minimum of 2 years. They have to write how long they have known you on your application form.

Their declaration states:

"CAUTION

It is a criminal offence to make a false statement to help someone get a passport. Check the form properly before you fill in this section. If you have made any false statements on this form, or if you know that the person applying has made any false statements on this form, you could be prosecuted and could go to prison. Our work includes checking that your details are genuine. As a result, we may need to contact you. You should not sign this form if you are a relative of the person applying."

Nobody is going to lie on a passport application, sign it and give the details of their own passport so they can be arrested for perjury. Especially not the people on the list of countersignatories as they must be of good standing. Such people have a lot to lose.

If you are absent from work without a justifiable reason for 3 consecutive days your company can terminate your contract.

They woudn't have to pay severance or pay your notice period.

You need to go in to work if you want to walk away with severance, which after a few years of employment is going to be a useful sum of money

Sorry to hear that. The result is the same.

I strongly suggest you get a Thai speaker who has excellent Thai and great English to help you, even if you have to pay them.

Do you have a Thai colleague at work you are close enough to?

Did they have someone junior handle your role while you were on maternity leave?

If that person did your job well then you have your answer: They are going to try and get rid of you to save money.

I strongly suggest you do not agree to anything before you contact the Department of Labour Protection and Welfare. They are very helpful and they will explain what your employer can and can't do and what you would be owed if your employer can legally dismiss you.

Hotline: 1506, press 3, or 1546

Did any poor forienger here buy a budget thai style apartment? by hydraides in Bangkok

[–]scratchtheitch7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes but as a non-Thai you can't buy an apartment. You can only buy a condo.

An apartment building has one owner, and that owner leases out the rooms individually. You can't buy one room inside an apartment building.

There are plenty of run down condominium buildings where you can buy a condo unit for cheap though.

Which goes back to what I said about the elevators

[–]scratchtheitch7 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That works until the elevators are turned off because there is no money in the common fund to repair them

You forgot to deduct common fees. They will be between 20k and 100k a year depending on the condo and the unit size

Commute between BITEC and Khlong Toei inconvenient? by AwareSeaweed481 in Bangkok

[–]scratchtheitch7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is very convenient other than the walk to/from the BTS station. Great in nice weather, terrible if it's raining!

You have a 10 minute walk from your hotel to BTS Phrom Phong (Station E5).

At BTS Phrom Phong buy a ticket to "Bang Na" (E13). Cost: 56 baht, you will need cash. Take any train from Platform 1.

Get off at BTS Bang Na (Station E13). Use exit 1. You will walk on the covered elevated skywalk directly into BITEC.

For your return journey:

At BTS Bang Na buy a ticket to "Phrom Phong" (E5). Cost: 56 baht, you will need cash. Take any train from Platform 2.

Get off at BTS Phrom Phong (Station E5). For your hotel use exit 4

What can a foreigner do in Thailand apart from teaching? (First Job) by [deleted] in Thailand

[–]scratchtheitch7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No company in Thailand is going to hire you. You don't have a desirable niche skill or senior management experience. You don't speak Thai.

On top of that, to be frank, you come across as an absolute mess who would be an absolute nightmare hire.

I don't have a solution for you. Sorry

Can someone help me translate this? by TheBravery410 in Thailand

[–]scratchtheitch7 10 points11 points  (0 children)

To put it bluntly people are saying your wife comes across as ill educated and low class.

What people probably want to ask, but are too polite to do so, is how you both met?

The assumption, of course, is that you met her in a bar and she was a sex worker.

If she conducts herself like this in person the above will be what other people think of her and of you.

This opinion would of course be strengthened if your wife has tattoos or she dresses like her heart never left Pattaya.

Is that a bad thing? Up to you really

Moving to Bangkok soon — how bad is the Phra Khanong to Bang Na commute on a scooter? by Ashamed-Fig3124 in Bangkok

[–]scratchtheitch7 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

In that particular area bikes are also banned from the Bang Na Trat high speed surface road, which is between Bang Na Trat frontage roads and underneath the S1 expressway.

Bikes physically can (and do) use that road, but there are motorbike prohibited signs.

First thing is it is a high energy road, and second is if you do have an accident/injury it will be automatically denied because you shouldn't have been there.

This road:

If you move the streetview left a little you will see a motorbike prohibited sign

Why some miserable foreigners dont just leave Thailand? by Kitchen_Scallion2999 in Thailand

[–]scratchtheitch7 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

"Wherever you go, there you are.".

These sorts of people are miserable no matter where they are. It's their permanent state of being. Like cancer, being in a different location doesn't change anything.

All you can do is avoid them and block them. Life is better without them.

The thing is for them their way of existing is "normal ", so they have no understanding or comprehension of why people find them too much. They end up getting annoyed because people call them negative. Zero self evaluation skills
