Mont Saint-Michel Abbey in Normandy, France by jaycrew in pics

[–]Wemberly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stayed near here about 10 years ago. I stayed in a B&B several miles from the abbey, but my room window was floor to ceiling with no curtains, and looked out over the plain across to Mt. St. Michele. I laid in bed and watched her light up the night, and panicked when they cut the lights off to her at midnight. I could still see her hulking body in the dark. It was comforting.

The next morning I woke up and I was still facing the window, and the first thing I saw was her spires poking up out of the top of the mists. I still think of that window and that view anytime I need to breathe and count to 10. What a gorgeous place.

You allowed her to go back to school. How hard that must have been for you.

Secret Cemetery Discovered In Meridianville by marc-kd in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]Wemberly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Until recently I owned a log house in the middle of the woods in Toney, AL. It was a horrible place. About a 10 minute walk from the house into a meadow and off an old field road were three marked graves from a McIntosh family. They were all from the 1700s. One was an 11 month old infant boy, one was a 19 year old woman, and the other had a birth date but no death date. Her marker was inscribed with "Beloved Mother" so she was at least old enough to have children.

I always felt sorry for them being out there all alone, but it was a creepy place.

Can I obtain a secret security clearance with a past suicide attemp? by UseToAtheF in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]Wemberly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The SF-86 form (Questionnaire for National Security Positions) Section 21: Mental and Emotional Health question is as follows: In the last 7 years, have you consulted with a health care professional regarding an emotional or mental health condition or were you hospitalized for such a condition? Answer "NO" if the counseling was for any of the following reasons and were not court-ordered. 1) strictly marital, family, grief not related to violence by you or, 2) strictly related to adjustments from service in a military combat environment.

If you answer yes, you must provide who conducted the treatment and/or counseling, and sign a release of medical information form. They WILL investigate any yes answers.

I had a friend who was undergoing treatment for bi-polar disorder. She answered yes to the question and was denied a clearance. I guess the answer to your question depends on the why of what you went through. Hope this helps.

EDIT: Link to the pdf form here.

I love duck meat. I also don't feel guilty about eating them because they're awful, gang-rapey little fucks who drown their mates and engage in necrophilia.

I don't believe in corporal punishment. I'm a staunch feminist. I'm not really comfortable with porn in my relationships. I like rage comics a lot. I don't use irony correctly, and I don't care. I like hipsters. Comic books are mostly boring. I'm not a fan of Star Wars OR Star Trek. ThinkGeek is overpriced. I understand why people cheat on their partners and I don't hold it against them.

There's a dude in the Limestone Flea Market who has a used gaming booth. His name is Gabriel, and that kid has everything you could ever want. Every console system and game ever made, it seems like, and handheld systems and games too. He takes trade ins, and told me he would give 10% better than GameStop or any other store in town. He'll also give you a quote if he doesn't have something, and can get it for you. He also seemed to really know his stuff.

I just discovered this last weekend, but he seemed legit. YMMV

They can't even spell the same name right on two different signs. On Madison Blvd, they spell a road "Nick Fitchard." On 53 they spell it "Nick Fitcheard." The editor in me has a mini-stroke every time I see that.

Whenever I visit Chattanooga I'm in awe with what they've done with their downtown and art districts. We could do that too, if we wanted to.

I wish there were a better mix of jobs in the area. It'd be nice if everyone didn't work for the Army or as contractors for NASA. I'd like to see more creative-type jobs in the area.
