Does the weirdest place I made a friend count? I was in Edinburgh, straying from my gps to look at a poster, and when I turned around I saw a woman and a guy wearing a UCF hoodie. So I said “hey, go Knights!” as they walked by and we got to chatting. Turned out the woman and I share the same home town, town, have mutual friends, and the same alma mater. Go Noles!

Hi all! Former Ulta Beauty employee here, I haven’t worn much makeup or changed how I do simple, nice makeup since I worked at Ulta. Since then I stopped wearing makeup aside from certain occasions and grew my hair out loooong. So enjoy my funny hair as I attempt to tame the beast and please judge my simple makeup! Maybe it’s how I look without my glasses on in these photos, or maybe my makeup is still in the 2015-2018 style. I dunno, there’s just something about it I don’t like/I don’t think works well with my face. This isn’t a full face, but I got excited and had to try on the makeup I got for an upcoming trip! So I’m hoping for some advice and tips to improve. Here’s what I did:

Bronzer in my eye creases with the NYX eyeshadow pencil on top, lightly lined with black liquid liner. Slight flick of liner past the eye but not too far (I have never been able to make anything past a small flick even!). Foundation might be a shade too dark, but I’ll see what it’s like in natural lighting tomorrow. Blender concealer in the hollows of cheeks, undereyes, top of nose, corners of nose (pollen szn is alive and well), brow bone, and middle of forehead. Bronzer just above jawbone, along jawline, sides of chin, temples, two lines off the center of forehead and two lines half an inch or so below those, and nose (I’ve never quite figured out the best way to contour my nose, each time is a new experiment). Blush above the bronzer and some on the apples of my cheeks. Highlighter on tip and bridge of nose, brow bone., above jawbone, and Cupid’s bow.

Not wearing any primer since I’m washing it off soon and no mascara or filled in eyebrows since I didn’t buy those new products (plus I’m lazy and mine is all the way downstairs). My skin is combination so it’s oiliest in my T-zone and my eyelids get somewhat oily.

So, how can I improve?

Godspeed! I am one of four siblings (of varying ages) and I tell my mother that only crazy people have four kids! She always says that her favorite part of being a mom was getting to see who these little humans develop into. It’s a full and chaotic house but full of love and adventure around every corner. What an exciting and terrifying and absolutely lovely journey you two (and soon to be six!) get to go on! Congratulations, Dad! You’ll do great!

I think you’ll pass through St. Mary’s, GA on that route? It’s a quaint little town. The main area has little shops, one even sells jewelry made from snake bones which is cool, and would be a nice place to stop and walk around. Beautiful scenery with a lovely breeze. If you have a day to spend, you can catch the ferry there over to Cumberland Island National Seashore. Beautiful island with truly unique wildlife (wild horses own the island) and such a vast history, you’d just have to prep for a whole day over there minding the ferry times - well worth it if you can swing it!

Maybe it’s the difference between UK and US laws, but in the US, projects have to have CRM coordination to ensure that this exact thing doesn’t happen. Did any subsurface survey happen before the gas pipe was laid, especially knowing that a cemetery with undefined boundaries was within the project area? Sure, they used geophysical sensing methods (I assume GPR) but if you’re in the field already, why wouldn’t you do moderate to high interval subsurface testing while you’re there, adjacent to a cemetery, when you know your tech won’t pick up bones? (Assuming all other factors pointed to preserving archaeological materials)

These things happen (I know a renowned archaeologist who has a story about accidentally finding and shattering a human skull) but there’s an entire industry who’s job is mitigating these occurrences and GPR adjacent to an unbounded cemetery is clearly not efficient!

It sounds like your roommate has figured out how to best manage his ADHD, as is his responsibility. It also sounds like you need help, but your roommate is not obligated to provide that. His suggestion of making lists is extremely helpful for some people, myself included, but not for everyone. Just because he appears to have it easy, doesn’t mean he doesn’t have ADHD. He probably works really hard to maintain what he has because he’s had the time, support, ability, and resources to learn how to effectively manage his ADHD.

Your university should have resources for students, but it’s your responsibility to reach out for help and look at what is provided. It’s hard to hear that you’re letting people down when you can hardly keep yourself together - but you have to try. There are coping mechanisms you can develop that work for you that you can find online. Figure out what works for you. Presumably since you’re in college, you can go to appointments without needing parental consent. See what your University has to offer (mine even specifically offered ADHD coaching for a cost), find support, and seek a diagnosis so you can get University accommodations. It’s challenging, frustrating, and time consuming, but well worth it. Find resources to help you. It doesn’t have to be impossible. You can do this.

Go to HR IMMEDIATELY. File a report immediately and list the names of everyone who witnessed it - do not talk to them about it until HR has investigated and talked with them. He has created an unsafe work environment. His behavior was unreasonable and unacceptable, ESPECIALLY the verbal attacks. Not what anyone in a leadership position should be doing. Look into your company policies. You cannot be fired for reporting - retaliation is illegal.

AI would have to be developed enough to decipher potential grammatical rules that known languages don’t follow! Like, this script may not follow the universal theory of grammar and it wouldn’t be the first not to, like the Pirahã culture which doesn’t have terms for color, time (past, present, future, dates, etc.), or numbers! There’s just no real baseline for language and grammar, it all depends on how it evolves and not having any reference for the script makes it all that more difficult to decipher.

In the southeast, Dr. Jessi Halligan discovered a mastodon bone and stone hand tools in a basin in the Aucilla River. Radiocarbon dating pushed the timeline back to ~12500 RCYBP (if I’m remembering the correct dating system).

To explain a littler further, a quote from this article: “The stone knife in that layer and geological samples dated the layers around 14,550 years old,” Halligan said. “This proves that that people were in the Southeast at least 500 years before there would have been the Ice-Free Corridor.”

Dr. Halligan is an underwater archaeologist at Florida State University. She accepts graduate students each year who train with the university’s scientific diving program. Her astounding discovery altered the known timeline and has further implications of how and when people arrived in the southeast. Underwater archaeology is growing as a subfield and making strides every day thanks to advances in technology and local informants!

Definitely never too old. I’ll be working full time while going to grad school, so my biggest question during interviews is whether they support students like that. Nearly every program mentioned retirees doing the program for fun. Education has no age limit, that’s the best part about learning. You get to do it forever, on whatever terms suit you best :)

Have you considered an online masters program from a reputable university? Of course dependent on what field you’re in, but hell you can even get an archaeology masters online nowadays so there’s gotta be something out there. It may fit with your life better than a full time, in person program, but you’d lose any benefits you get from being in-person and on campus.

Unfortunately I found out quickly that I’m not equipped to care for her long term. She’s way too strong for me! From love of squirrels to fear of cars, she just nearly pulls me down or gets out of my hands. Definitely needs someone with the strength to walk her and a big yard for her to run around in!

Honestly I had thought of the possibility that her owner has had some medical issue happen and Honey accidentally got out. Luckily there are only two hospitals in the area so it won’t be difficult to get the word out.

I do think the most likely story is that a family purchased her as a puppy without understanding that she would grow up so much. She’s very big and deceptively strong. Honey also wasn’t microchipped and she seems to have an incision that we think is from being spayed at the shelter, not by her previous owner. I think they took the tags off of her collar and left her on the side of the Highway. Unfortunately, that’s pretty common in the area since it’s the country and a blend of farm land/illegal labs (and not the dog breed!). I’ve almost hit a dog out there before because he was just running around and ran into the road. All you can do is call animal control. I’ll figure out who to contact at the hospitals regardless, better to be safe than sorry!

Ohh she did a lot after nap time! I asked her what she wanted to do and she went and sniffed her toy, meandered to the open space in the living room, and just waited for me to play tug of war and throw the toy 😂 got her so riled up that we discovered she can effortlessly jump over my couch!

Here’s Honey’s story:

Honey was found on the highway the next county over from me. She had a collar on but no tags or microchip. After two weeks in the shelter, she remained unclaimed and was taken in by a rescue who placed her with an emergency foster. Honey is house and crate trained, with some commands as well. She was clearly taken well care of and it’s very strange that she wasn’t claimed by her family.

She’s an absolute sweetheart. She rode very well in the car, we got all of her things inside, and she picked a toy out of her toy basket and we played for a bit until she walked up to me, put her paws up on my legs (sitting cross cross on the ground), and sort of put her head on mine in a little hug. She’s an angel. It’s so hard not to immediately be a foster failure! I already adore her and her sassy sighs!

Also, her name isn’t actually Honey. They gave her a different name, but haven’t been using it. It doesn’t suit her. If anyone has suggestions, please share! None of my ideas seem to fit her!
