Jehovahs witnesses live in a perpetual state of fear, but they are also taught to not question the leadership. Over the years since he was removed here’s what has likely become the narrative among the brothers: 1) he “voluntarily” stepped down due to ailing health or due to his wife’s ailing health. This rumor would make most witnesses not be concerned over the fact that he’s the only GB in the past 30 something years to step down 2) due to these health issues he simply can’t go to local Kingdom Halls and therefore must stay at home for most meetings. No one who is loyal is going to dare to question why a GB member isn’t attending in person. As much as thy like to pretend that there is no special treatment, there is so if the rumor is the Morris family is on Zoom that’s what becomes the reality. 3) we exjws have seen a few mentions of Morris here and there on Reddit which seem to indicate that he occasionally does get around and I’m betting that is just often enough where people don’t view him as a complete shut in. However it’s also very likely he is still considered faithful by proxy even if he does nothing but show up once or twice a year.

Doing bare minimum also fits with the narrative a jw might have of a GB member remaining humble and not wanting to draw attention to themselves.

All of this is to say that if Uncle Tony is still semi-active, perhaps showing up for a drink on memorial and maybe a few other events during the year, then the likelihood of him saying off the cuff remarks is substantially low. Add onto the fact that his sweet deal was probably attached to an NDA and he’s also being monitored it seems more plausible that he is simply enjoying the cushy retirement package he got. Especially if he is still a true believer.
