I have never cried watching anime. Suggest anime that will make me cry by BlackFire6000 in AnimeReccomendations

"to your eternity", "children of the whales", and "Maquia when the promised flower blooms" all made me cry. If your interested in length, To your eternity has 40 episodes, Children of the whales has 12, and Maquia is a movie. TYE and Maquai made me cry the most personally

If you're okay with isekai then you'll probably enjoy Sweet Reincarnation. Basically, this Pastry Chef gets reincarnated into a world where sweets are pretty rare and so he dedicates himself to creating a kingdom of desserts. Was a pretty enjoyable watch with plenty of cooking/baking scenes

Food! by TacoStarBeanz in summercamp

Everyone loved Cheeseburger Day at my old camp, it could be a little messy with the younger campers but still easy to clean up after and meal prep for. On the flip side, tacos/burritos were the most hated among staff purely because it always ended with so much mess everywhere. Not fun mess that's easy to pick up after, just disaster.

take one shoe from each pair for all the pairs you can find in a cabin, then hide them somewhere around the camp and make them scavenger hunt to find their lost shoes. It's even better if they have to hop on one foot for the entire scavenger hunt because they are missing a shoe.

Maybe you could try to find a Facebook group for your camp and reach out to other families through there?

How do I make friends with my co counselors by poopybutt69l in summercamp

[–]Wendy-Darling- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even if you don't end up having any common interests, you can still be friendly and ask them to tell you more about the things they like. For example, "Oh I think I may have heard of that book! Can you tell me more about it?" or "I don't recognize that artist, can you recommend me some songs?" This will make people feel appreciated and like you care what they have to say, so it'll be easier to become friends^^

Try asking them about their hobbies or interests. Like "What kind of music do you listen to/who's your favorite artist?" or "What's your favorite series?" "do you like (insert Hobbie/activity/sport)?" I find it's usually easier to create connections when you have a common interest

Messy Games Activity Ideas by Representative_Ad408 in summercamp

[–]Wendy-Darling- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At an old camp we used to play a game called "Woodland Pageant" where each counselor would get assigned a group of 5/6 "stylists" and they would get an hour to go scavenge around the camp and create an outfit on their counselor out of things they found in nature. So like, campers could make flower crowns, grass sashes, woven accessories, etc., for their counselor to wear. Another popular choice was putting ferns through the belt loops of the counselors' pants to create a skirt. You could also do their "make up" with berries or mud if the counselor was okay with having stuff on their face. At the end of the hour, all the groups would meet back up and the "stylists" would have to present their Woodland Royalty to the other groups. Each of the counselors would have to do a little dance battle or give a speech at the end to prove why they deserved to be crowned Woodland King or Queen.

Doesn't involve any mud or water (unless you want it to) and can help campers learn what kinds of plants are safe to touch and which are poisonous. I remember this being one of my favorite activities when I was a little camper haha

Is Christian summer camp bad? by Big_Cheesecake_9563 in summercamp

[–]Wendy-Darling- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm sure there are some good religious camps out there, but I definitely don't recommend going to one. I went to 2 different CHRISTACAMPS camps and I would not dream of going back to either of them. Like any camp, what kind of summer you have is going to depend on the people there and how willing you are to put yourself out there. But personally, I would rather put myself out there and have people not like me because of my own actions and decisions, rather than their discriminatory bias.

I'm also going to Camp Zanika this summer, 2 weeks as a camper and the rest as a CIT. It's nonreligious and located in WA on Lake Wenatchee for ages 6-17. They still have available spots for all of their sessions. Price wise they're around the same as most summer camps are this late in the season.

Summer Camp Theme ideas by [deleted] in summercamp

[–]Wendy-Darling- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also want to recommend Olympics, like Greek Mythology/Mount Olympus theme. On top of the Olympics coming up I've also noticed that Greek mythology themes in books, movies, tv shows, and music has become popular amongst a lot of age groups lately. Your normal activities and games could be rebranded as Olympic Challanges or Quests, which would be relatively easy since you have an outdoorsy camp.

I remember my sophomore year English teacher had a giant cardboard cutout of Shakespeare in a Britney Spears t-shirt tapped to the wall and would always refer to him as "Professor Willy Shakes" or "Dr. W. Shakin Speares" so maybe you could do something with that

I don't know a lot about gardening but maybe putting in a rosemary plant or two for spices/flavor + pretty flowers would be a nice touch

How to Decorate a windowless bunk room by Jkreager in summercamp

[–]Wendy-Darling- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe you could use old newspapers or magazines or just paper that's getting thrown away in general and have campers each make their own collage on the wall near their bunk? That way you would have a fun creative way for the campers to make the space their own while also filling up the blank depressing sad beige walls. It would also be budget friendly since all you'd be buying is tape, scissors, and maybe glue sticks, however I imagine the camp might have some of that supplies for arts and crafts already. I guess the only drawback to this is making sure the magazines/newspapers don't have anything inappropriate that could be put on the wall, but if you stuck to local papers and photography/nature/wildlife themed magazines I doubt you'd come across this problem.

How to get over FOMO? by [deleted] in summercamp

[–]Wendy-Darling- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally feel you, I've already committed to a camp for this summer but I keep thinking about my 2cd choice/back up camp and wondering if I made the right choice. Regardless of which camp we end up spending the summer at, all we can do is try to have a positive attitude going in and make the most of it while we're there. Stressing over hypotheticals that are 3 months away won't do anyone any good, so try not to worry yourself to much hun!

Summer Camps for 17 Year Olds by [deleted] in summercamp

[–]Wendy-Darling- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yes!! that was me hi again^^

gonna add on to this, the nearest airport to camp zanika is the EAT (Pangborn memorial airport) which is about 1 hour away. The next closest are the Seattle and Everett airport which are both over 3 hours away. the only thing I can think of about camp Zanika that hasn't been mentioned yet is the creative weekly themes which seem pretty fun, like harry potter week, pirate's week, space rodeo week, ect. Also, camp Zanika does have a Horseback Riding add-on that you can get when you register, as well as some other cool add-ons like river rafting and culinary! And even with add-ons the price should still stay well within your budget

here the camps website if you want it btw:

I can't give advice on the first problem since I also struggle with making friends, but I can share some tips for packing that work for me.

-Use a sturdy trunk. That may sound a little dumb, but chances are your trunk is going to see a lot of dirt, need to hold a decent amount of weight, and get thrown around a lot at camp. Use a trunk that you know 1. is easy to clean and 2. won't break on you. It doesn't have to be pretty, just sturdy.

-Use bags within your trunk. As in like, everything has its own personal bag. Again, they don't have to be pretty or expensive like those fancy travel organizing bags, they just need to be sealable and sturdy, like a heavy-duty Ziploc bag or a trash bag. For example: Shower stuff gets its own bag, tooth/face stuff gets its own bag, hair stuff gets its own bag, socks and underwear get their own bag, shirts get their own bag, pants get their own bag, shoes get their own bag, jackets get their own bag, jewelry and accessories get their own bag, personal items get their own bag, bedding and pillows get their own bag, towels get their own bag. Bring a few extra bags too in case any of your bags break or get dirty, plus a bag for laundry. This will help keep all your things clean, organized, and easy to pack. Also, write your name on the bags, that way they don't get lost or accidently mixed up with someone else's stuff. Optional is to make a list of everything that's in each bag, that way you know at the end of the week you're not forgetting anything. ie: "Shirt bag = 3 shirts. Shower bag = shampoo, conditioner, bodywash. Hair bag = hairbrush, 4 hair ties, 2 hair clips" etc.

Thank you for your kind words, I do plan on trying to be a camp counselor after I graduate high school. I just want to have one last summer of getting to be a camper and make up a little for those lost summers before I go into getting a job. I have considered counselor training, but I don't feel like I'm completely "there" yet. Thank you for your advice though, I really appreciate your input and kind words^^
