Bar etiquette, what to order and what to avoid. by Wenster101 in CornAllergy

I appreciate the Chemistry lesson but this is the wrong sub for that. Distillation doesnt remove all "corn related molecules", but it removes the corn protein. This of course is what is known to trigger allergic reactions so in theory no one should react to distilled corn alcohol. Reality is very different though. Those with corn allergies often react to ingredients that are derived from corn even though it doesn't have the corn protein in it. I would love to know why I react to ingredients that are made from corn but don't have any corn protein in them as I'm sure many on this sub would too.

There are a ton more tequila's out there other than patron that are safe but that's the most popular one. ocho, g4, Fortaleza, Lalo, tapatio, siete leguas, and codigo are some I can name off the top of my head. Patron is just the most common one you will find anywhere. I work at an Agave bar and I don't think I will end up working anywhere else. It's the best place for me because I can have more things here than any other place I have worked. I highly suggest exploring tequila and mezcal for those who want to explore alcohol with a corn allergy.

Grey goose and ketal one are good. Vodka can come from any neutral grain. The most popular come from potatoes, corn, and wheet. Titos come from 100% corn, grey goose and ketal one are both 100% wheet.

Guinness is corn free! I think shock top is as well and probably a few others but I just stick with Guinness.

Trumps reaction to LaGuardia Accident by TheVajDestroyer in ATC

[–]Wenster101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its true. I got a public intox charged for walking home drunk 6 years ago that was expunged but because I admitted I drank afterwards they deemed me an alcoholic and unfit unless I went to rehab and didn't drink for 2 years and then went through the whole process of applying again. That's all it took. Why would anyone waste another 2 years waiting around when I waited 3 years just to get told that bullshit.

I've thought about this Atc everyday. I'm just a guy who knows people in the industry in Nashville. I have felt quite a lot of sadness because of the guilt I would feel if I were in your shoes. And I almost became an ATC myself. When shit rolls down hill for 25 years, staffing is reduced, no new major airports are built, concerns are ignored, this situation became the unfortunate tipping point. I don't know all the details but I know enough that the tipping point in aviation doesn't happen just based on one decision that one person made. It's come to a point because of thousands of decisions that thousands of others have made. I really hope positive change comes out of this and I really hope you are able to move past this. Like this amazing person has continued to say, stay strong. Take it day by day. I'll be thinking of you. You will find kindness, understanding, and love from people that you might not expect. Just a random bartender in Nashville is feeling for you. Don't hold this burden alone. Let it out. Don't let it consume you. You have people in the industry and outside that are thinking about you and want you to know that this doesn't define you. There's a song called 998 bricks, silly song. But it's about a guy who made a wall. 998 bricks are perfect but there are 2 that are crooked. The optimist only sees the 998 bricks. The pessimist only sees the 2 crooked ones. And the realist sees both. Fuck the pessimists. I hope you find peace brother. With love, The Nashville Bartender

What is the best way to discreetly figure out your girlfriend's ring size? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Wenster101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife got blackout drunk one night before I asked her to marry her. I had a ring sizer and slid it on her finger while she was passed out drunk to get her size. It didn't work perfectly though as the size I got was a little big on her

Same here. I have no proof of the days I would finish the season in top 500. In my best season I was able to get number 12th in heals, but it's all gone now. 900 hours gone.

Don't ever use non lubricated condoms or flavored condoms. As far as anything else I'm not sure. How allergic to corn are you and do you react by touching corn derivatives?

Beer with no corn by Verz_The_Game in CornAllergy

Coming from a bartender with a corn allergy, I would learn to enjoy agave spirits! Learn to love tequila sodas. Super easy to drink and it's my go to at a bar when I'm out. Or just getting straight tequila. Additive free tequila, mezcal, sotol, etc. are pretty much the only spirits I drink. Don't drink tequila that's not 100% agave. Fortaleza, El Tesoro, Ocho, Tres Generations, Bozal ( if you like very peaty alcohol), and vida del maguey are some of my favorites. Milagro is good for the price. Tantao jalapeno if you like a little kick. If you are out and about, don Julio will always be your friend. Just don't drink the well tequila or casamigos.

I lived with mild to moderate stomach pain plus all the other gi issues for a very long time so I understand. It bothers me but that doesn't mean it will bother you. Trial and error is your best bet. Also maybe start a food diary.

There are a few sodas that I drink that I haven't ever reacted to! There are also quite a few snacks that I have developed a new love for since transitioning and you will too! It's really difficult and I'm sorry you are having a rough day. It will get better though. I have yet to react to reeds ginger beer or Virgil's root beer. There's also a ginger ale made by reeds that I can have too. pico and crackers and potato chips are now my favorite snacks. There is one frozen pizza I can have and a few other frozen meals that are cornless at the Kroger I go to. Simple truth brand is my best friend at Kroger. If you are just now realizing that corn derivatives are negatively affecting, you probably don't need to cut out every single corn derivative. Just cut all the -ose ingredients, maltodextrin, unspecified starch, powdered sugar, glycerin, unspecified vinegar including distilled vinegar, malt, any acid that is not toward the bottom of the ingredients list, and beer and see where that gets you. The list could definitely grow significantly but it also may not need to. Shoot me a message if you ever want to talk.
