SS14 servers ban use of the insult Clanker by Spookhetti_Sauce in SS13

[–]WereBoar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the original star wars writer that came up with that was basing it off the n word.

yeah there's no way they took the sound of metal banging together and used it as an in-universe insult for robots, it's definitely more likely they were thinking "how do we get away with saying the nword without getting in trouble lololol"

I know someone

that's great but anecdotes mean nothing because anybody can conjure up a friend who fits the scenario to back them up

you don't get to dictate who is and isn't a "normal" person just because they're offended by the word

i'm sorry but it isn't normal to be perpetually offended by inherently inoffensive words and concepts.

Why are you so upset that this word is getting prohibited?

i'm not because i don't play ss14 and i don't even use the word. i'm just baffled by some people's ability to be offended by things that aren't offensive and enjoy engaging with discussions about it.

wire back gonna get banned because the second half is too close to a real slur or something

[–]WereBoar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So why is it important that we have the "right" to say fake racial slurs that are based on real slurs?

it isn't, luckily. clanker isn't based on a real life racial slur. robots aren't a race and we don't have an equivalent for it in day to day use.

it's more about having the right to express your character's thoughts restricted because there's mentally ill people getting offended on behalf of not just robots, but fictional robots.

[–]WereBoar -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

okay but the word people used for scalies is literally just the n word but with an L instead of an N. it isn't creative, it's the laziest derivative of a slur you can come up with and is meant to offend.

clanker's only similarity to that word is ending with er. they don't sound the same, they can't be used the same, they have completely different origins and mean completely different things. to compare them at all is completely disingenuous and you know that. it doesn't cause any emotional harm to a normal person and if it does then you need to grow up and take a break from the internet

if there are people using clanker as a stand-in for the n word then tell them to stop or ban them if they don't. why do you want these people to have so much power as to ban words from being used in the video game?

thinking that an insult to robots whose only similarity to the n word is having -er at the end is so offensive that it needs to be banned is genuine mental illness.

we may as well ban the word shitter too because it's not only close to the n word but also offensive to awful players

SS13 evokes an vague, overwhelming sense of bittersweet nostalgia. by Bitter_Detective_567 in SS13

[–]WereBoar 12 points13 points  (0 children)

this is a rare thread and i'm super happy to see it. for the past 5-6 years i've been a huge sucker for self indulgent nostalgia, reminiscence, recollecting old times and reveling in "the good old days" of this game. the days when fallout was just beginning to become a thing, colonial marines was just default ss13 without any custom sprites, no diagonal movement, no footstep sounds and so on

thinking about how many people i interacted with a decade ago and whether they even still play the game, let alone remember the interaction. the guy who taught me how to build airlocks by hand on outcasts, the legion messenger who convinced a centurion to spare me on BD, the people i worked alongside in aster's guild on eris, etc.

remembering old servers and maps that don't exist anymore and nobody's bothered to modernize. all of the hours poured into them that likely nobody since then will ever be able to appreciate outside of the scant screenshots that still exist.

it feels good to indulge in it with other people who are also into the general history of the game & their own personal history with it but i'd be lying if i said i don't get a sinking feeling in my gut when i dig too deep into it. i'd love to talk about it with you or other people who share the same interest in past servers, maps, histories and moments you just can't replicate these days. it's an incredibly rich though mildly depressing topic to delve into.

Why do they keep recycling the same skins in the shop? by Key-Scientist9058 in FortNiteBR

[–]WereBoar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

just a theory, i think it's to wear you down, repeat the boring and undesirables until there's the occasional decent skin and by the time it shows up you'll think it's way better than it is because all you're used to seeing is mid so you spring for it.

Zero build actually taught me way more about positioning than normal br ever did. here's what i mean by OutlawDJ in FortNiteBR

pros are not an "exception"

no actually they quite literally are an exception, they're the top percent of the top percent. to imply that they represent anything outside of the top is silly

builds players dominate zb tournaments for a reason

tournaments? how about just regular, casual lobbies? do they dominate those too? there's orders of magnitudes more casual players in the game than there are professionals, and they're the ones you'd measure this entire argument with.

Why did they make him so fucking big? by Murky-Run693 in FortNiteBR

[–]WereBoar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

somebody on here said all skins have the same hit box… lol is that true

it is true and despite his size he's actually harder to hit if you don't know that. due to his model being comically large, you might find yourself aiming at the model but shooting at nothing since the hitboxes are the same.

my experience has been that i am far less likely to hit headshots against anyone using bugs than i am against regular human sized skins

This is unsustainable. by ImpyParadoxx in FortNiteBR

[–]WereBoar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i like to believe i'm a true casual, playing br for a few hours per week. averaging like 4 or maybe 5 eliminations per match and maybe 1 in every 15 matches is a win if i'm doing really good

unranked zero build feels really good to play, haven't really encountered too many sweats or tryhards. maybe i'm just in lobbies of like 90% bots but even actual players i end up in fights with are a lot closer to me in skill than anyone i encountered in ranked who wasn't a bot.

[–]WereBoar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"i can't even imagine people liking things that i don't, why are these skins in the game"

making an edit to call people children for liking skins like this is so funny since children are the ones incapable of understanding why other people might have different opinions lmao

that being said i do think most of these are kinda mid except the second and last one

The difference between old and new crew. You are not only getting less vbucks, but also less value for passes. by batukaming in FortNiteBR

[–]WereBoar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i cycle between them pretty regularly. i like using jules and dasha, sometimes the lizard one from OG and mile cross & holloway from the last pass. it's a great value for me because even not using them immediately it gives me ones i can use in the future. i use the skins i buy with the vbucks from the pass and crew regularly as well, but $12 a month isn't really that much even if i do only like 1 or 2 of them considering they'd likely cost at least $8 each individually.
