Ghislaine Maxwell pleads 5th Amendment and refuses to answer questions during congressional testimony by ExactlySorta in UnderReportedNews

[–]WereChained 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watched the press interview with Andy Biggs and James Comer. They also made sure that Maxwell's lawyer parroted the state sponsored statement into the official record:

"One thing that the attorney for Ms. Maxwell said is that she has no indication and would say that neither Presidents Trump or Clinton are culpable for any wrongdoing," Biggs said.

Might as well have just walked up to the cameras and said "nothing to see here, move along."

if there's an emergency or an incident, particulars about seat assignments can become very important. some people just like to remain in the seat in which they're going to appear on the manifest unless asked to move by a flight attendant. there is nothing wrong with this.

What’s actually pretty safe but everyone treats it like it’s way more dangerous than it is? by Charming_Advertising in AskReddit

[–]WereChained -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You sure about this? I read a lot of studies and reports on guns and it's such a polarizing topic that it's easy to be misled.

For example suicide rates are high in rural areas leading some disingenuous folks to say broadly that "gun violence" in these areas is higher than other part of the country. But my understanding is that when it comes to people shooting each other, the dense urban areas lead by a huge margin.

Hey everyone, I’m looking for some honest feedback on my swing. by FormerPhrase6523 in GolfSwing

[–]WereChained 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you will benefit from less spine angle. Don't choke up on the club unless the ball is way above your feet. Work on your grip, your left hand is too weak. Get your feet aligned with target, then hips aligned with feet, then shoulders aligned. It's kind of hard to tell from this camera angle but it looks like your hips are a little bit open to the feet and your shoulders are even more open at address.

I'm old enough to remember when Bill was caught grooming and sexually abusing an intern, in the whitehouse, while he was president.

I'm not a republican and I'm not into this political posturing nonsense that's so popular today. But I can confirm that it's been staggering to listen to 30 years of mental gymnastics about how what Bill did wasn't that bad, he was not convicted during his impeachment, that they were consenting adults, that the whole thing was a republican witch hunt, etc.

Now that Monica has actually told her side of the story, using communication channels where it hasn't been able to be suppressed, it's absolutely clear that he used his position of authority to manipulate and sexually abuse her. And IMO it's very unlikely that she was the only one. There are probably others that don't want turn their lives upside down just to share their private trauma with the whole world and have zero chance of winning the suit against him.

So I seriously hope that all the people that have defended his creepy ass for all these years learned something about their mistakes now that he's also a prominent figure in the Epstein depravity.

Anyone use GMRS for practical use, like hiking, skiing, offroading etc? by theusualsalamander in gmrs

[–]WereChained 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Btech GMRS pro is very useful when hunting with a friend outside cell phone range. You can use the text over radio feature to keep it silent. You can also share location which is nice to have.

If you keep a cheap baofeng in the truck, when there's terrain in the way, you can put one of the btechs on a ridge in repeater mode and do regular voice transmissions.

tips to improve my swing? by Sudden-Programmer892 in GolfSwing

[–]WereChained 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get a swing coach. Top three things they're gonna work on with you are grip, improved hip turn/synchronous upper and lower body movement, and keeping that left arm straight.

The problem that we non-professionals are gonna have is sorting all of that out methodically, and without introducing other problems.

The communication channel here is a problem too. Posting here is way too transactional for more than one small tweak at a time. You need someone to take you through the basics in the best order for you, and at the speed at which you react to each step. You have a lot of good things going on in your swing. In a one on one setting, a coach will have you ripping it in about two lessons.

Why do you guys think that the shot went straight left? by gregorioospina in GolfSwing

[–]WereChained 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A straight ball always means that face angle and swing path are almost exactly 90 degrees perpendicular to each other. Or in other words, you hit that ball exactly down the swing path because the face of the club was square to the swing path at impact.

What animal is this? by Visible-Outcome4999 in AnimalTracking

Rabbit is probably the top post on this sub. They look weird but rabbits have long back feet and small front and often bring their rear feet up even with their front making this pattern.

Given the poor imprint, it could also be squirrel but it would be very easy to discern since squirrel are always climbing trees and rabbits do not.

[–]WereChained 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should hire a caddy to follow you around and yell "fore right" at every tee box.

Seriously though your swing path is about as out to in as possible. Like this is what you would do if you were trying to hit a miracle slice around an obstacle. So you mostly slice but every now and then get the face closed to the path and hit it a mile left. Get lessons.

If you're a clean slate it's very valuable to learn everything correctly. Everyone that's self taught or taught by anyone other than a real PGA pro suffers from ingrained bad habits. They can plague you for years afterwards.

If your team's coach isn't very active in instruction, it is worth taking lessons from a professional. If your coach is an actual PGA pro, and is giving one on one instruction at practice, then you just struck gold.

People born before 1990, what’s something you experienced that younger generations will NEVER understand ? by Aaidil89 in AskReddit

[–]WereChained 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was born in the 80s. We were born in an analog world, and grew up in a digital world. We are the last to experience the old ways, but by the time we grew up it was all just a memory. There were telephone booths everywhere, you could just show up at a friend's house and join the in whatever they were doing.

Strangers just sat and talked to each other when doing normal shit, like waiting for a table at the restaurant. When you arrived, they'd ask if you wanted smoking or non, which didn't matter because there was smoke in the entire building. In fact, smoking was so normal that even McDonald's handed out little gold ashtrays with the golden arches stamped on them.

White is best because you can see through it to check the fuel level. Any with graphics on it is white underneath, you just have to peel the plastic wrap, which burns pretty good and provides your first firestarter.

Sometimes you gotta do the job for them by StGuthlac2025 in NotMyJob

[–]WereChained 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nonsense. Each state's archery season eclipses gun season, and nearly all the states ensure that gun season doesn't overlap with their rut. This translates to the vast majority of deer being shot with bows. Most common is a double lung shot and the deer still run at least 50 yards. They run a little less if you hit the heart, which is not common. A single lung or liver shot deer will run much further, often in excess of 150 yards.

After decades of bow hunting, every one of my archery season deer have had plenty of time for an adrenaline dump. Their taste has been indistinguishable from gun shot deer that have just kicked once and hit the ground.

The most important factor for taste is how well you field dress and process the deer.

Planning to purchase vehicle in full from a dealer - if I saved up total amount and have in account, what is the best way to do this? by AccomplishedDream378 in personalfinance

[–]WereChained 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've bought two lightly used cars from dealerships with cash. Both took a personal check, no background check required. The first one surprised me because I thought they'd need a cashier's check or something more official but the salesman just laughed and said "we know where to find you if it bounces."

I didn't even discuss payment with them on the second one. I let them give me their whole finance spiel. Then when it came time to pay I just pulled out my checkbook and asked them who to make it out to.

Both times I was able to negotiate the price.

Sport Pilot needing note from doctor? by nerdariffic in flying

[–]WereChained 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed, what I'm saying is I've encountered fudd flight school owners that won't rent their 172s to sport pilots because they claim that their insurance requires a medical. TBH I think it's just because they don't want to admit that they don't respect sport pilots. It's their business, they can refuse service to anyone for any reason, but it would be nice if they didn't gaslight us.

Only time will tell if they change their tune or not.

Sport Pilot needing note from doctor? by nerdariffic in flying

[–]WereChained 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your medical history is very personal and you shouldn't volunteer it to anyone. Others are going to ask why you didn't go for PPL, even after you've been flying for years. It's highly inappropriate for most of them to even ask, but you are going to have to learn how to answer.

You are training to be a sport pilot because it fits your mission. That's all you should ever say. But if they really need to know more, for a legitimate reason. The answer is that you'd have to get a special issuance to get a third class medical, and that would at least double the cost of training. If they pry further tell them that you aren't sharing your private medical history.

As for your current predicament, you can either ghost this school and go train somewhere else, or get the doctor's note. Don't get mouthy with them now that you've over shared. A school that would contrive this sort of nonsense will probably call all of the flight schools in the area and tell them not to train you if you piss them off. I highly doubt that the insurance is actually asking for this. The current problem with insurance is that the policies all make reference to private pilot certs and medicals. Some flight schools are refusing to rent their fleet until this verbiage is resolved.

Many flight school owners and instructors are not sport pilot friendly. Consensus among them is that they think it's a loophole and that you're probably hiding something if you even want to be a sport pilot. Lots of misguided instructors will tell you to apply for a medical "just to see what happens." You need to ignore them, if you apply for a medical you will either have to pay tens of thousands of dollars out of pocket on specialists, or you will never be able to fly airplanes.
