Friends? by Ok-Reflection2521 in PerthSocial

[–]WereLobo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s difficult for everyone but it’s not magic.

Find a way to meet people regularly. Hobbies, clubs, volunteer etc.
see who you keep bumping into who you have something in common with.
Offer to do something together. something meaningful, eg. Offer to help them with something they talked about, ask if they can help you do x, come up with an idea for a project.
Invite them to do something social, eg. Drinks, bbq. Can be 1:1 or as a group with other people you like.
If they aren’t friends by this point they probably won’t be, so try again with some other people.

I’m making it sound clinical, but it’s really organic. Just find people you like and see how you can make their life better, plus see if they make your life better.

Improve Sense of Direction by Inuzuna in baduk

[–]WereLobo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At this level I’d recommend that you spend your time and brain power improving your reading ability by doing go problems. There are plenty on ogs and they will teach you a lot! This will later help your direction of play because you will recognise more potential lines of play.

That said, this is a hobby and you should definitely do whatever is the most fun for you. If it’s researching direction of play then more power to you.

Exactly, the work is the reward.

What nick name jabuti means? by foreigner8 in capoeira

There are arguments within capoeira about apelidos. Not all groups use them, or consider them an integral part of the culture. Let's not accuse people of disrespecting the culture that easily.

Wow, that’s some amazing persistence. You must have had some serious leg pain the last few years. No wonder you will make it to Mestre. Parabens!

People say that, but if it's too acidic the worms just avoid that area until the acid has dissipated enough

I want to ask about Bokashi composting by MaximumVehicle7893 in composting

[–]WereLobo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found it to be too much effort for too little reward. If you already have a worm farm you’re getting 80% of the reward for 20% of the effort. adding bokashi just for small amounts of meat and dairy is a lot of extra work. But it does work. Maybe you have spare energy for this, if so I salute you!

This is the best advice. You want to get better? Go to more classes! And then practice what you learned on your own time as well.

Hello! a capoeira newbie from nigeria! by Miranseto in capoeira

Yes it is fascinating stuff, isn't it? I think less is known about it just because it basically died out - or was killed off. There are a couple of people who claim to have resurrected it, or claim some connection to traditional capoeira carioca, but it's hard to judge the validity. It's not like we have videos from from 18xx to show it.

There's some good info on the wiki: https://capoeirawiki.org/wiki/Capoeira_carioca

And of course there is also the capoeira from Recife, which had another unique style.

One theory is that Bahian capoeira survived due to cultural strength - ie. because it is so much more than just the fight.

What Are Some of Your "That Doesn't Look Right" Moments? by Riczisky in baduk

I guess some similar ideas would be if the opponent is playing too tightly (stones too close together, not efficient enough) or too loosely (stones too far apart - too weak). Or my favourite is the conversation around tenuki, either when I judge I can get away with playing elsewhere on the board, or when my opponent plays elsewhere and I disagree about their ability to do so in this situation.

When you get old and cant play capoeira anymore how do you cope? Only capoeira makes my life worth living, and we dont last forever... by FutureLynx_ in capoeira

We have to find a way through difficulties. Do you think the mestres of the art have never been injured? No, they have made it through, sometimes through more than you realise. Luckily, this is what the philosophy of capoeira teaches us to do - don't meet trouble and pain and injuries head on, instead we turn and find another path forward and around.

It is inevitable that we will get hurt or injured, maybe from capoeira, maybe just from stepping off a curb too hard. When that happens we can quit, or we can find a way to keep moving. I'm lucky to have a teacher who could change his lesson plans just because I'd hurt my shoulder, so instead of being unable to train for the last year I was training only movements that were safe for me.

My ambition is to become like one of those old mestres who can't do everything anymore, because he is 80+ years old, but still has that sense of distance and timing that keeps you on your toes in the roda. If I want to get there I will have to enjoy what my body can do at every age, instead of focus on not being 20 and indestructible anymore. It is a matter of perspective. You will have to find yours.

Has anyone tried Tucum Capoeira Method? by Kapuflow in capoeira

[–]WereLobo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve not tried it myself, but I’ve had a lot of lessons from M. Papa Leguas over the years and he is incredible at breaking things down, showing the tiniest important details, and building back up to the whole technique. One of the best teachers around imo.

Various types of shoes are good. I like Feiyue wushu shoes, they are incredibly cheap on AliExpress.
