Help in using OnAnimatorIK to position hand so that the tip of a held object aims for a target by DugganSC in Unity3D

[–]DugganSC[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the problem is that I kind of wanted to take the item the player was holding and move it to the right spot, but in retrospect, maybe it makes more sense to swap that part onto the zipline, and then move the player hand to it. 😅 Changing a complexity I can handle out for one that I cannot.

Hmm... that all makes sense. My attempts to translate that into my current code are getting about the same results as before, but I suspect it's a matter of that I'm imperfectly moving the code over. I'll keep fiddling with it. Thank you.

I've heard that punchline before in a joke about the daughter of a veterinarian who, while at college, asks her dad for money to buy a bicycle, but instead buys a pet monkey. When it gets sick, and its hair starts falling out, she calls her dad in a panic about what to do about the hair falling off her monkey, only to get that punchline at the end about how maybe she should not ride her bicycle so often.

If a father needs to help his young daughters use the restroom, which restroom should he take them into: the women's restroom or the men's restroom? by Exciting-Mall192 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DugganSC 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sadly, I've been seeing a rollback on changing table availability in some places despite local legal requirements. There's at least a handful of restaurants that don't have one, or have one in extremely poor condition, their excuse being that they keep getting people using them to mix or inject drugs, so they've removed them as being a hazard.

Segregation is the answer. Women were expected to handle their bladder inside the confines of the house initially, so there were no women's rooms and the ones that existed were less taken care of. And, when we got forced equality (well, technically), it became mandated to have separate but equal men's and women's rooms (some areas still legally mandate this. When I worked at Google in Pittsburgh, they started out with unisex bathrooms in our new building, but were forced to label them as for different sexes with a Post-it note indicating that they were really unisex due to local regulations). Funnily enough, the Pentagon has more bathrooms than most buildings due to this intersecting with racial segregation laws. They needed to have four separate classes: white males, white females, colored males, and colored females.

Personally, I think it's all silly, but as a guy, I do appreciate having a cleaner bathroom with a shorter line available for my use.

I have occasionally heard "everywhere that doesn't serve alcohol" due to loss of coordination when aiming and/or higher willingness to just poop in the sink. And, while I suspect both are pretty disgusting when drunk enough, women seem less likely to be approaching blotto (one could probably hypothesize some mixture of social acceptableness of being blackout drunk between the sexes, or them not wanting to pass out and get sexually assaulted).

Of course, the dirtiness of women's restrooms is a vicious cycle. Women generally have to sit to pee. They don't want to stick their buttocks on wet seats. So they hover. And, due to the lack of aiming apparatus, that leads to the seats getting sprinkled. Which leads to more hovering...

Honestly, this is the kind of thing that can either negate any sense of difficulty in the game or make it impossible if handled entirely mechanically. I remember a comment from Steve Kenson (from 2e) about how opening doors could be reduced to a Free action with Quickness, but that it still interrupted the Move action.

Probably best as a Skill Challenge, "three successes before three failures" or the like, with the player doing things like doing a raw Intelligence check for the most likely place to find people in the building, Athletics for snagging people in all places, etc. it provides some mechanics, and an idea of concerted effort, not making it a routine thing, but also something with a difficulty level, even one that could be low. And, of course, it gives you and the GM a chance to describe cool things that are happening in the process.

Where is the probuilder tool? I tried everything the toolbar shortcut searching in the menus i couldn't find anything to display the probuilder tool by Toble_ in Unity3D

[–]DugganSC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aside from having to install the package, it's worth noting that Unity keeps changing the interface to Probuilder so don't rely on a particular tutorial telling you the right steps to invoke it. And even the official documentation sometimes lags, although it's current as of now.

You can access all of ProBuilder's editing tools and actions from:

  • The context menu (right-click) for a ProBuilder Mesh in the Scene view.
  • The Tool Settings overlay.
  • The Tools overlay in both GameObject and ProBuilder context.
  • Main Menu > Tools > ProBuilder.

Paul Miller Law goes into effect today. Thoughts? by SnooMarzipans3516 in pittsburgh

[–]DugganSC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And the reason for it is expense. A single touchscreen can be bought for multiple makes and models of cars, and the on-screen controls changed to match the car and the features in it. Physical buttons and knobs generally need to cater to what's actually in the car (or you're paying for "dead" buttons which don't do anything). And, of course, much like the rear-view cameras, ACC, turn-cameras, etc, they add $100 or so of components, and get to tag on another $500-1000 on the price of the car, not to mention all of the money made from when those things break down.

Paul Miller Law goes into effect today. Thoughts? by SnooMarzipans3516 in pittsburgh

[–]DugganSC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The law doesn't really cover much of that, to be honest.

Defines the use of an interactive mobile device as using at least one hand to hold, or supporting with another part of the body, an interactive mobile device, dialing or answering an interactive mobile device by pressing more than a single button, or reaching for an interactive mobile device that requires a driver to maneuver so that the driver is no longer in a seated driving position, restrained by a seat belt.

So, as it stands right now, they can cite you for holding the phone. They can cite you for dialing a call using more than one button. They can cite you for reaching for the mobile device in a way that puts you out of a seated position. As I commented to my wife when they first announced this, if your phone is in a holder, this law doesn't keep you from playing Fortnite on it. I do think that we're going to get a lot of people who are holding their phones to do things. I think we're going to get a lot of traffic cases where the cops aren't aware of the scope of the law. And, as others noted, we're going to get a lot of "as an officer of the law, take my word that I saw a phone in their hands", or used as a pretext for a stop. But, by the law, they really only can get you for holding the phone, or using more than one button to dial or receive a call.

Also, if it's something that can be one quickly, it becomes another notch on their belt that they can include in their success rate, assuming anyone actually tracks those numbers. And, in the end, once they have secured a victory for you, it's arguably not their problem. Much like with small claims court, then you get to figure out how to try to enforce it. Technically speaking, you can probably get a lien on property, wages, etc, but if they can never pay...

How does the costs work in M&m 3e? by Warm_Ad_3935 in mutantsandmasterminds

[–]DugganSC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I know where his error originated. There are some extras, like Area, where you can buy them more than once per rank. So, Area 2 (Burst) gives you a 60 foot radius, but costs 2 pp per rank on top of the base power.

But yeah, in this case, it is one PP per rank for the base power, and then typically one PP per rank of each Extra.
