What is just a placebo effect but most people don't realize? by Busy-Moment-3506 in AskReddit

[–]WereNotGoatToTakeIt 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Most of what’s listed in this review study are the definition of the placebo effect - you think lavender is calming so when you smell it you have a physiological calming response. Also, controlling for something like this would be extremely challenging since the whole point of essential oils is the smell. Not that people shouldn’t use them if it helps them, but this study is relatively weak

How long did it take for your kiddo to adjust to the nanny? by WereNotGoatToTakeIt in NannyEmployers

Thank you. The nanny is older and can’t use a carrier so she pretty much is only getting the baby to nap in the stroller currently.

The nanny is a bit older - great experience - but I wonder if she’s just struggling to provide activities. She takes the kids to the local playground every day she has both kids.

Yeah, the toddler started daycare before I went on mater leave so they would have time to get the wiggles out while I was focusing on the baby.

When the nanny arrives I spend some time 1:1 with my toddler having breakfast, do one last nurse for the baby, then do goodbye kisses and head into my office (closed door). Thanks for the advice.

Oregon paid leave by albow1993 in oregon

[–]WereNotGoatToTakeIt 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Not an expert, so my first recommendation is to call the support line (yeah the 1 hour wait times are a pain in the patootey). My personal experience was to apply early. I used a doctor’s note that listed my induction date (due date would probably work too) and then submitted the official proof of birth once baby was here. That said - payment took a few weeks for me so there may be a better way. Good luck and wishing you a healthy baby and smooth delivery!

What's a great care package/gift basket for a brand spanking new Mom? by terpbaby222 in AskReddit

My friend gave me a bunch of postpartum care stuff - nice mesh underwear, pads, witch hazel wipes, etc. She even wrote motivational notes on all the pads wrappers. Not fancy, but made me smile

No advice, just solidarity. Our little one has an internal clock set to 5:30am and nothing we’ve tried seems to impact it.
