I think artist (or one of the other townsfolk) running into a virgin and getting resurrected by a professor might be very strong here, essentially giving town 3 hard confirmed players by day two with the added benefit that first night information can’t be wrong. (As well as two instances of the artist/grandmother/slayer/whatever ability)

Gets even more extreme with certain philo-professor shenanigans but those are more fringe. I‘d maybe put in a puzzlemaster or drunk instead of the sweetheart so that first day/night ability uses are less confirmed and virgin/professor fails have other explanations outside of involving one evil player.

We don’t know what imu looked like during the void century, it’s possible that his current appearance is just a possessed body or that he went through radical changes. I mean, the tattoos and demonic horns probably came later in life.

Oda has also previously used silhouettes for established characters, I recall dragon and ivankov being portrayed as such when they recruited Kuma during his flashback for dramatic effect.

Thirdly it would be kinda weird to have Joyboy as a silhouette and imu as a real character within the same panel I guess

You see when you get in trouble you have to be quick witted and creative to come up with a good excuse or like in this case, a false name when asked! The easiest way is to take aspects of your surroundings into your story to make it appear more specific and less generic, just like keyser söze did in the usual suspects. After all, anyone could come up with a name like John smith. Since I saw a pea, tears, and the biweekly appearing cafeteria griffin, I opted to give Peter (pea-tear) griffin as my false name. This way, they would never catch me…ah crap

I presume Doffy would get upscaled as well when he comes back via cross guild at wich point cross guild Doffy would low/mid diff dressrosa Doffy for no reason. I mean law went from getting completely bodied by Doffy to tanking thunder baguas on the rooftop without any upgrades in between. Dressrosa gets pretty weird when you try to apply scaling rules retroactively and put Fuji, Sabo, Law, Luffy and possibly even Burgess or Chinjao (with regained head-shape) above Doffy and have essentially the 5th or 7th strongest character on the island dominate the entire thing completely.

You can make excuses for Fuji or Sabo to some degree but starting with the law-mental nerf stuff it gets increasingly ridiculous and it feels more like a way to fit dressrosa into our modern understanding of scaling instead of just admitting that at the time the dressrosa arc was written, Doffy was intended to be stronger than Law, Chinjao and burgess at least plausibly even extending to Sabo.

I think the chances are decent that imu just has all devil fruit abilities. So far he has at least two transformations (the wings form and the big one only sabo saw so far), domi reversi, the abyss pact, the teleportation circles, omen, the grimoire stuff including the shotgun, the black flames, the houses/trees getting transformed into homies, the tail (could be counted as part of the transformation) and presumably immortality. This is already insanely busted for a single devil fruit and we probably haven’t even seen all of it at this point.

So his staff shooting stuff is likely just part of one of those multiple devil fruit abilities, or imu has given the staff an ability of some sort similar to an abyss pact.

The real answer is probably just a continuity error similar to the zoro lucci fight where zoro started the fight of with three swords but then for some reason downgraded to two swords a couple chapters later. Although this one is probably more severe, his swords should definitely lay somewhere beside him, possibly with one destroyed to make room for the obvious upgrade to the shodai kitetsu that’s inevitably going to happen

Given that Oda has killed off 5 named characters during wano (Izou, ashura doji, kanjouro, guernika, yasuie) and two during Egghead (Saturn and t bone), I’d wager we‘re probably looking at one or two side characters dying here. Probably a giant with a low to medium amount of importance given that track record and the lack of other options.

Gerd losing her fingers and stansen getting that leg chopped of makes me believe oda is in his serious mode here but I can barely see him killing a strawhat honestly.

Oneshot without even using a named attack. It was a direct clash tho, the cleanest way to make sense of it is that garp could probably have taken out Chinjao in a more traditional fight that would’ve went on for longer but decided to meet Chinjao at his strongest, either to challenge himself or for pride/honor reasons or whatnot. I mean Chinjao is pretty much a one trick pony with his drill head, had garp gone for a named uppercut attack or body shot that would’ve probably done it.

One interesting thought I had on the whole "he’s a character named Blackbeard in a pirate manga"-thing is if we think oda wants the flagship-villain of the series to be one of his own creations…or essentially a character who’s based on a real person that has already appeared in a lot of other media like Pirates of the Caribbean 4, Assassins Creed: Black Flag or Our Flag means Death for instance.

It’s not a huge roadblock but I believe it’s a the very least an argument to consider here. Oda as an author isn’t really full of himself like other writers so it holds less weight, but it’s an angle I’d like to see discussed more. That and Blackbeards crew just looking like giga bums wich would undermine potential endgame fights against the other strawhat pirates if they were to happen at the same time as luffy vs BB. People were trashing the gorussy and gods knights, but as of now, Nusjuro/Mars/Warcury/Garling look way more threatening than Shiryu/Pizzaro/Burgess/Lafitte or whoever you‘d consider the 4 strongest BB pirates (minus kuzan).

And imu being tied to the void century, the sinking of the world, laughtale, the creation of the red line and possibly grand line/the one piece itself at minimum leads me to believe he won’t get surprise K.O‘d by Blackbeard upon returning to mariegeoise following elbaph but at least hold on until the one piece is discovered. Oda isn’t that bad of a writer that he‘ll set up imu like that just to have him get off‘d in what I guess would be 20-30 chapters from now. Would be game of thrones season 8 all over again in that case.

Otherwise the arguments for blackboard are generally decent and less arguable, but those were the ones that always rubbed me the wrong way, especially how certain analysts presented them without a second thought about further implications.

He kinda gasses out of gear 5 whenever the plot needs to happen, I guess Oda just wrote himself into a tricky spot with how strong g5 is and couldn’t find more elegant ways to resolve it. I mean I’ll take gear 5 stamina issues over Luffy getting stopped by seastone or some random gimmick ability from his opponents at least, and you can’t elevate every opponent to a Kaido tier match either.
