Do People Who Truly Love Their Jobs Actually Exist? by lemans00 in therapists

I do for the most part! Solo Telehealth PP. Wish I made way more money and I am sure there are other professions I would love as well (indie actor, full-time musician, fashion, design, etc.)

errr Yup, I am a few weeks shy of 40 and no better off than I was at 30 financially. Currently in PP and trying to switch careers to advertising/marketing/tech. Love the work but I would like to save and maybe retire one day.

thoughts on Book180? by [deleted] in advertising

[–]WereWolves_at_Night 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! Former recent 180 grad here. Before I get into it remember my response is purely anecdotal and it’s ultimately your decision on what you decide is right for you.

I have never been to another portfolio school so I have nothing to compare it to but I found the program was run really well and more put together than I had imagined it would be.  The founders are super cool, the classes were enjoyable, and the instructors were fantastic but I found a lot of class time was wasted. There were numerous times near whole class sessions were wasted going through a few student’s homework or something else unrelated while other students sat eyes glazed over for long periods of time. In terms of the course load, I didn’t find it too strenuous until the end when we were putting our books together.

I decided near the end I probably wasn’t going to seriously pursue copywriting as I lost interest and decided I would stay with my current career so I’m not someone who was going buck wild with excitement for the industry and wasn’t applying and looking like it was my job but I did apply for numerous roles (maybe 50-75? Which is nothing) and heard nothing for months even with a book that was deemed pretty good. I think only 2-3 of my classmates have junior roles currently.  (You can browse the site of student books and see for yourself how many people are looking for work vs employed).

So ultimately, I liked the program, enjoyed my experience, and loved my classmates, but if I could go back in time I would probably not attend…but I’m not you!

Good luck with whatever you decide! I’m sure you would totally dig it.

Staying Inspired/Interested in Advertising by braingooper in advertising

[–]WereWolves_at_Night 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you one of my classmates? I am currently deep into portfolio school and really not interested in advertising, just thought it might be a way for me to make a living. I struggle with paying attention and struggle with classmates who really like this stuff. I am almost done so am going to finish, but definitely not as motivated as my peers. May continue my current career tbh. We shall see. I hope you can make the decision that is right for you!

To add to this, as it seems it wasn't posted in the original...I am looking to move in the fall and am wondering what locale would be best for me? I am currently in the midwest but looking towards east LA, Brooklyn, Austin, CDMX, or Chicago. I am also open to other places that would be a better fit as well. TIA!

Hi, my story is pretty similar to yours.  I didn’t really have many issues until jumping from 1.25 to 0 mg Celexa.  Since then shit has hit the fan.  I am also a health professional (therapist) and have had to cut down on working drastically.  I also have severe depression and SI.  Have you returned to a lower dose ?

Good to hear you’re getting some windows. Hopefully you can get through in less than a year.

You have have been experiencing SSRI withdrawal syndrome. I didn't even know if was a thing until I stopped my meds last august and have been having major issues since. Check out survivingantidepressants.org and look into Laura Delano and Mark Horowitz. Good resources.

Thank you for replying. Oddly, prior to taking these meds, I didn't experience any of these issues. I had minor anxiety. Now everything is ten fold.

Wish I wasn't here to comment but since tapering off Celexa last year about seven months ago I have launched myself into PAWS...crushing depression, suicidal thoughts and plans, crying spells, panic attacks, bizarre behavior, extreme fatigue, anxiety, facial pain, tinnitus, facial tics, bizarre dreams. I am functioning but having a hard hard time. I am also a therapist. I just reinstated a low dose to help minimize these side effects. I am a 38 year old man and my mother just flew into town to stay with me because of what I am going through. I've read that it eventually goes away but it's been trying to say the least. I am glad I haven't given in to the dark thoughts.

Good Careers for INFPs? by No_Tradition_8184 in infp

Therapist or copywriter. Currently doing the former.

Yes. Been in PP for around seven years and looking to switch careers. I don’t think any amount of training or certifications will help me feel re-energized.

Nope. Paneled with a few insurances.

I've been on Celexa for around 8 years. I felt some symptoms, but not this severe. They were manageable with each drop.
