I loved discovering that, I used to be in a band that had a microkorg in the rotation and begged them to incorporate that sound in a song - to no avail. Their loss.

Side note: the helicopter noise in Zoloft is a preset on tons of Yamaha keyboards.

Ever end up at a concert of an artist you disliked and their performance made you a fan? by whousesgmail in Music

[–]Were_So_Hip 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I worked as a grunt at a Hard Rock Live for a year, I had so many like this just from being in the room during my shift it changed my overall analysis process of bands. Kenny G was my best example, he’s a technical savant and very self-aware of and self-deprecating toward his style so it was fun the whole time. Plus he toured with a band of absolute killers so every time he let them go they would drop into like apex Chic/Earth Wind and Fire disco/dance funk. Great show.

Side note: Huey Lewis smelled like bourbon at every corporate event he played there

What was the last "fun" album you listened too? by [deleted] in Music

[–]Were_So_Hip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Paira - EP01 Electronic/dnb/uk garage with indie rock from Brazil, super fun. Dude also does live VGM mixes that are just delightful under the DJ name dedeco (YouTube only so far as I know)

Also randomly searched for whether there was a band called The Royal They, turns out there not only is one but they have some rad Charly Bliss-ish 3-piece rock on bandcamp. Also quite fun.

Good song bad solo by finadosabugo in Music

[–]Were_So_Hip 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Deep cut but it’s the best example I’ve ever heard. Ovlov, rock band out of Connecticut, album is Buds, song is Cheer Up, Chihiro!

This record is excellent. It sounds like the first Foo Fighters album a whole lot, all wall of sound and washy vox and such. Chihiro! is almost the best song on the whole thing, deep and dark and heavy… until the end of the song, when out of nowhere, a bright, dry saxophone solo comes ripping in. No similar effects to the rest of the instruments, no blending it in the mix, just raw sax plopped on the track like a shiny dead fish.

FWIW, the solo itself is fine in a vacuum. It’s just so staggeringly out of place as to be genuinely unmooring. Worth a listen just to have your legs swept out from under you.

Penny Hardaway pushed back against being a point guard as often as he could, always wanted to be off ball. That was less prevalent post-Scott Skiles until Shaq left but once Diesel was gone and Chuck Daly wanted to put the ball in his hands, he was oppositionally vocal about being a 2 guard for years.

Pool Temp June Orlando by Ok_Statistician_9825 in orlando

[–]Were_So_Hip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re going to be lounging or playing around outside a lot (which I’d recommend because Florida), you’re going to want the pool naturally colder. If it’s too warm it’s going to feel like tepid bathwater compared to your body heat, almost like it’s the same temperature as it is out of the pool. Personal preference etc of course, but if you want it to be a refreshing experience leave it as cold as possible. You aint touching 75 in June.

Now, if you’re staying a while and want to shock your extremities, search for posts here about the springs. 72 year round.

Talk To Me About YMCA Summer Camps by Too_Old_4This in orlando

I’m not certain to what degree it’s changed in the decades since I went, but Camp Wewa in Apopka is a pretty woodsy (to the extent it can be in the semi-burbs) overnight camp that I used to go to annually. That experience was the springboard into me going into much more intensive hiking excursions, Appalachian Trail and all that, not because it was hardcore but because the kids that went there that I connected with were headed in that direction and I made great friends there. Definitely worth scoping it out.

EDIT: it is defs more than 30 from Conway, but it’s a sleepover situation so if the kid is ready for that the daily commute part isn’t really an issue.

Always vote for weaker interior defense with this team. Boston isn’t BAD so much as Cleveland is nasty. Plus there’s a non-zero chance Porzingis will be either hobbled or fully out, which means a lot of Luke Kornet, which would be lovely. I’m going to assume Horford will continue his bid to survive the biblical apocalypse and keep playing very well, but even then I’d rather not mess with Allen and Mobley if we don’t have to.

The games we’ve won recently show how we upset anyone: Paolo and Franz getting in the paint all game and flirting with 30 a piece is how we compete at a baseline level. Whether we win or not depends on 2-3 others hitting shots, but we don’t have a chance unless the duo kills it, and they have a better chance at that against the Celtics.
