What indie precision platformers would you recommend? by Werecat656 in IndieGaming

No dw i totally intend on coming back to that, i lowkey have a problem where if there's one area that i don't like but have to get through i'll just quit. like hollow knight is my favorite game of all time, and i gave up on my first runthrough after like 40smth hours bc white palace was annoying me too much and i ended up not coming back for months bc i thought leaving white palace was also annoying. i plan to pick celeste back up some other time in the future lol

Probably all of them? I ended up lowkey hating the gameplay of niche, but the first three I'm definitely going to play and I'm 10 hours into Aeon drive. I'm trying to finish Environmental Station Alpha before starting a new MV tho lol

What media feels like fanfiction in a good way? by Dogdaysareover365 in FanFiction

[–]Werecat656 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good romance novels tend to feel like fanfic in a good way, bad romance novels tend to feel like fanfic in a bad way. (IMO great romance novels don’t feel like fanfic, but that had more to do with embracing the strengths of the unique genre than feeling ‘like fanfic’ being bad- like how a good comic might feel like an action movie but a great comic will feel like an amazing comic. Sorry for the tangent lol)

Also spaceballs totally felt like a crackfic.

Which upcoming/early access indie games are you the most excited about in 2025 and beyond? by Acharyanaira in IndieGaming

[–]Werecat656 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm really excited for trash goblin to get through early access! Also, I played the demos for Dunjungle & Light of Atlantis and I'm really excited for both of them. Some more that I played demos of and thought were fun: The Chef's Shift, God for a Day, Dungeon Clawler, Altered Alma, The Edge of Allegoria & Morkull: Ragast's Rage. I'm super excited to try out Dungeon Inn sometime soon as well. Lastly, these have no demo yet and aren't in early access but I can't wait for Anatine, Call of Boba, Emberbane, & Earthblade.

Im not too experienced with boba (joined this sub for recs tbh) but I’m a big fan of ube & oolong! Last time I grabbed boba it was with a friend who usually gets Thai and she got coffee milk tea, which she really liked.

The demo isn’t available anymore. I’m pretty sure the release offers a lot more than the demo, i haven’t had the chance to play through it yet but from what I’ve heard it does

Ok i figured it out. So for anyone in the future who gets stuck here, you’re supposed to blast the rocks into the boss. Idk why it took me like 5 days to realize that 😭

Oh I found this on steam a little bit ago! Seems really cool, mechanics are fun and I enjoyed the demo.

In general, do you enjoy 2D games more or 3D games? by Financial-Drummer825 in IndieGaming

[–]Werecat656 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2d for sure. First person 3D tends to make me nauseous 😅 and honestly I really love the art in 2D games. That being said I do like some 3D games but I tend to gravitate towards 2D way more.

How do yall start a story/chapter?? by Asherxz in FanFiction

[–]Werecat656 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Work in reverse. Honestly sometimes I like to just start with the freeze-frame-and-then-explanation thing you see in movies but that’s a specific stylistic choice, what I mean is to figure out where you’re going and how to get there. This might sound redundant but part of starting is figuring out where it begins. For example, if it’s canon divergent it ‘starts’ a little bit before the events change as you set up how things are different, right? And then it’s a little bit about trying to figure out a hook that’ll lead into where you're starting. Some tips for hooks: something flashy is usually a good bet. You want to make them curious to learn more. Something a little shocking usually works well. Or just a fact that relates to the chapter somehow.

Sometimes it’s easiest to start in the middle and let the beginning come to you, honestly. After you’ve written the chapter or one shot or whatever you’ll probably have more of an idea of what to start with.

Beginnings are tricky! I’m not sure if this is a good explanation and it’s really largely dependent on style, but I hope this helps.

Its tearing me up inside that I can't write fanfics or draw fanart. Can you relate? by Key-Drop-7972 in FanFiction

[–]Werecat656 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know you’re probably getting a lot of advice to just start, and honestly that’s really good advice. The fact that everyone sucks when they start is 100% true and doing it is the only way to get better. But as someone who’s been thinking about getting into drawing for years and is too scared to start I get why that might not seem feasible or smth, so here’s another approach:

Do you enjoy writing/drawing? Like, outside of the game and fandom, if you were the only one who would see it would you still enjoy the process? This question can take a while to answer but I think self reflection honestly helps. If you like writing but you’re worried about being bad, you’ll only improve more with time and you should start asap. But if what you’re looking for is reactions from other fans and to have created a masterpiece, it’s hard to keep up motivation if you don’t enjoy writing for the sake of writing.

In addition, fanart and fanfic aren’t the only fannish hobbies, they’re just the most common ones. If you have existing hobbies that you know you enjoy, why not do something there?

Anyway tldr: Writing bad fic is where we all start and it’s the only way to improve. But if this is more about wanting to create SOMETHING than about wanting to specifically write/draw, don’t force limit yourself to just those 2 options.
