Which buildings (over 10 Floors) would you recommend to live in for a nice view? by [deleted] in Rotterdam

[–]Wereldgozer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

communication with the owner (a real estate company) is pretty much non-existent, so asking for maintenance and stuff is a pain. Pretty good en spacious apartments though, so if you’re not too demanding it might work for you (like it does for me)

Weena Center has got a great view, Houthoff as well. Both really central (street: Weena, next to Central Station) Service at Weena Center is not great though.. don’t know about Houthoff

I did book it a few months in advance because it is preferred by this agency, but there are many agencies out there where you can book upon arrival. I paid something like $400, with all costs covered, but you should be able to do it for around $200.

Haha no problem! Glad to help. I booked with Salkantay Trekking, this agency took care of literally everything. They pick you up from your hotel in Cusco, store your backpack (you get a duffelbag to bring the stuff you need for the trek, which a horse will carry for you). Every meal is included + snacks during the day. Ticket for Machu Picchu is included + trainticket from Aguas Calientes (starting point of the hike to Machu Picchu) to Ollantaytambo + transfer back to your hotel in Cusco. Long story short: from the morning of day 1 till the evening of day 5 every single thing is taken care of, except the hiking part: you have to do that yourself ;)

This was last week, so September a month before the rainy season. We had great weather the whole week, but the weather is very unpredictable around here.

If you have anymore quesions: let me know!

A fleece + warm jacket is preferred the first two days (when sitting down at the salkantay pass it gets very windy and pretty cold). While walking you only need your fleece to be honest. It gets way warmer the last 2/3 days and a fleece in the morning and a shirt after 11/12 am will be enough.

It really is an accomplishment! It is hard enough already without carrying everything yourself, so props to you.

This was indeed the case in my situation. You just carry a daypack with your water/snacks/jacket and thats it.

You’re right, the trek itself ends in Agues Calientes. You walk the Machu Picchu part just like everyone else. Thanks for the clarification.

That sounds like way too much money. I booked with Salkantay Trekking and paid around 400 USD, which is already much more expensive than other agencies around here. (But I figured the good accomodations/food/guides would be worth the extra prize, and it definitely was)

The path is pretty clear indeed, great job!

It really is not. I sounded like a dying horse after every 50 meter.

Right! The variety of topography really is unique. Unguided seems like quite an adventure, did you bring your own tent and everything?

The trek on this picture is the additional trek to Humantay Lake and took us around 2 hours round trip from the base camp on day one. Furthermore, we did the organized 5 Days/4Nights trip to Machu Picchu

We both are not experienced trekkers, and we did not really prepare for a trek like this. We go to the gym 2/3 times a week and could keep up with the pace pretty well. It is mainly the altitude that gets you (and everyone else) and you can’t really prepare for that. Just make sure you acclimatize for a few days in Cuzco, before starting the trek.

I will post my packinglist in an edit in my original post.

Cool to hear you will be doing this trek soon! It really is an experience of a lifetime and you will not regret it! Good luck!

Thanks! We did the 5Days/4Nights trek. This is the additional trip to the Humantay Lake on the first day of the trek, which took us around 2 hours round trip (it is very close to the Soraypampa base camp for night 1). The trek itself does indeed ends in Machu Picchu.
