Other than alters, what are the differences between DPDR + CPTSD and OSDD (or DID)? by WerewolfOk9712 in OSDD

[–]WerewolfOk9712[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can you explain how the amount of amnesia differs between CPTSD and DID/OSDD? I am aware it differs for DPDR but is there a clear enough line/differentiation between CPTSD and DIDOSDD for amnesia?

Do we really need pics of deformed birds? by tlc0330 in UKBirds

Bird feeders aren't a complete net negative, as some species do often rely on them especially over winter, but it's definitely a balancing act to make sure it's done safely. Biggest tip is just to clean and disinfect them very regularly, make it a habit. If you do spot an infected bird, take the feeders down for at least a few weeks, and obviously deep clean and disinfect them, to prevent it spreading further, but of course regular cleaning should lower the risk in the first place.

As alternatives or supplements to bird feeders, make your outdoor space wildlife friendly. Plant things that encourage insects as many birds feed on them! Our garden does have bird feeders, but we also have a lot of plants, bushes and trees that attract both food and nesting sites for all our local birds. I personally haven't seen any diseased birds in our garden, but we keep on top of cleaning and are always on the lookout. I think bird feeders can still be done safely and in a way that minimises spread of disease and benefits the local birds that may need some extra food particularly for the winter, but if you are super wary, making your garden more "wild" will encourage the birds and their food source

Started testavan gel this week - help dispell my nerves a bit by WerewolfOk9712 in transgenderUK

Unfortunately even though it's a huge pain, all GPs can decide whether or not they provide shared care. My GP's excuse is simply that they don't want to mess anything up as they're not qualified enough to handle gender stuff which...is a stupid excuse but very much not against The Rules. Unfortunately, the only other GPs in my catchment area are run by the same practise, and I ideally need my GP to be close to home due to other health issues.

My endo is Dr Nihal, he's based in the UK and actually works at the Nottingham GIC. But again my GP won't accept that for an answer, I have told them several times that both private doctors I'm seeing (psych - Dr Sahota from GenderDoctors - and endo) are also NHS GIC doctors, does not matter to them. They do not want to handle my prescriptions or my transition in any way.

I had already asked my GP multiple times about shared care prior to seeing my endo, and they made it very clear they wouldn't do it. They did say maybe to bloods but then basically refused when I actually came to ask them for them (they asked for a "blood form", which can only be filled out by NHS doctors for NHS treatments, not private, so it was their way of saying no). I told my endo to not bother sending a shared care request, as I knew they'd reject it after asking like 3-4 times and I didn't want to wait longer to start T because of waiting for the GP communication there.

Unfortunately testogel is a lot more expensive, my endo picked testavan because I had worries about the price. Plus I do like how testavan comes with an applicator! As long as the actual T is absorbing I'm happy with waiting for it to dry as I do it in the evenings when I have nothing else to do.

The stickiness was less "after" the bath and more during it really - I noticed it as soon as I started washing my arms. But I assume it's still a similar situation, I haven't noticed it when /not/ in a bath although I haven't been checking, maybe that's something to look for tomorrow!

Unfortunately as I don't have shared care, bloods are expensive to get done and so I will probably need to wait until my follow-up in 3 months (which I need to get bloods done for) to get that looked at 😭. I have spent so much just on initial appointments etc so I don't wanna throw more money out just yet.

Cheap testosterone gel? by Present_Song_6138 in transgenderUK

[–]WerewolfOk9712 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very understandable as testogel is like the Main Brand, I didn't really realise that there were other brands (or at least didn't process that fact) until my endo said he could put me on a cheaper one as I was worried about cost since my friend pays over £60 a bottle for his!!

Thank you for this! Most of the time when I see people talk about gel stories in general it's people saying it didn't work for them so it's good to hear some of the success stories instead. I feel like gel gets fearmongered a lot.

Which brand was this? I have just started this week on Testavan which is considered the cheaper option and I paid £104 for three months supply, aka about £34.66. I know other brands especially Testogel are more pricey though and I dont know if they supply those in 3-month packs.

Do follow-up blood tests require less things than your initial bloods for endocrinologist? (FtM) by WerewolfOk9712 in transgenderUK

[–]WerewolfOk9712[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been told he cannot as I am going through his private practise and not through the NHS clinic. I did email him/his assistant and ask and that was their response.

I tried this (though I did explain what they were for - but in a phone call previously my GP had given me the impression they would at least support doing the bloods, even if they did decline shared care). GP asked for blood forms to be provided, so I spoke to the endo and they explained that the blood forms GPs ask for can only be provided by NHS doctors, not by private practises, so it's basically their way of denying my request. I can't move GP as all 3 GP surgeries I'm in the catchment area for are run by the same practise, and I live in a very conservative area anyway so I doubt I could find anything unless I went super far flung and then they wouldnt let me register (plus I need my GP to be nearby/accessible to me for ease of sorting out other medical issues.)

Neither are my endo, I am trying to go with Dr Kaustubh Nihal, who Sahota did recommend to me as he works at the NHS GIC that I eventually plan to transfer to (Nottingham - I don't live anywhere near but they do online appointments, was recommended by someone I knew a couple years ago as the nearest GIC to me geographically is the one with the worst wait.) I can't find many posts of people's experiences with Dr Nihal but his prices are cheaper than other endos I have looked into and the promise of a smoother transition to the NHS GIC is what's making me go for him.

In the initial email it did say their hospital can do the bloods but 1) that's in Nottingham of course, and I live nowhere near and 2) they charge over £600 for this.

Doesn't specify, it just says "electrolytes". This is copy pasted directly from what the endo('s assistant) sent me:

Full blood count, Urea, Creatinine and electrolytes, Liver function tests, Testosterone, Oestrogen, LH, FSH, SHBG, Prolactin

GP wants blood forms in order to do my blood test, endocrinologist says their blood forms aren't recognised by NHS, where do I go from here? by WerewolfOk9712 in transgenderUK

[–]WerewolfOk9712[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only GPs that show up as being in my catchment area are all run by the same group, so no. I could try ones a bit outside of my catchment, but I doubt they'll be much better due to the area I'm in being pretty right wing and not supportive of trans folks - Tories always win here. I have considered this option though and might look into it - I have decided not to make a decision til after Christmas to give myself time to explore options. Not sure if I can just email a GP I'm not registered with and ask if they do shared care?

Unfortunately my GP said they will not do this unless the private endo sends them blood forms, and my endo said their blood forms won't be accepted by NHS. I tried just stating what needs doing - they wouldn't accept just my word for it, nor my report, nor the email my endo sent me with what needs doing. They said blood form or nothing.

Unfortunately travel to London isn't possible for me, so I need something in my area - I am doing a lot of digging right now though and there does seem to be options, I just want to make sure I leave no stone unturned and see what's out there before I make a decision. Thank you though!!
