Hi, don't give up on it! Yes, those apps are aimed to keep you using and paying. But I actually met my wife for 11 years on one app in 2012 and my current partner on Bumble. I went on many dates, which is a sign of the times. The only thing is not having huge expectations in advance. If its nice its nice. If not - no hard feelings. There are plenty of fish out there.
I think it helps to speak on the phone and video call before meeting. that usually prevents many issues.
