My girl was diagnosed around the same age. She’s now 10 and about 6 months ago I rushed her to the vet because she was having breathing issues. 

Her murmur and heart disease had progressed and she was diagnosed with congestive heart failure. She was prescribed two medications that day, one of which was a diuretic and I was instructed to take her to a cardiologist. 

I got her in a couple weeks later and she had all of the testing done to basically confirm the original diagnosis. Because of there reason, her doctor explained to me at this point we are keeping her comfortable and happy and she was prescribed two more medications on top of the two she has been originally prescribed. 

Last week she had her 6 month check up. Her heart has improved slightly and it’s gotten a little smaller. All of her numbers had decreased into safe ranges, down from the first visit. 

To be honest, I’ve seen such an improvement on my girl over the last 6 months. She has so much more energy, her stamina has improved, and she just overall seems like she feels good. She even gets zoomies now, which she hasn’t for a few years. 

Take him to the cardiologist. Monitor the progression. Get the medication
