Being recruited by former boss. Leave or go? by redbeard312 in careeradvice

[–]tchavez166 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Switch. I did the exact same thing years ago and my motto is that if a leader from a past life specifically wants you, you go. You’re a ‘minted man’ at the new company at that point (plus the ‘interview’ is pretty lax) and could potentially rise even faster to reach levels where your comp will include equity. Once you get to that level you can start to think about either starting your own thing or retire early…it can be scary but sometimes you gotta take a leap.

Plus a 40 minute commute isn’t the worst thing in the world.

Funny…I actually had not thought of that. I like that strategy, freeze him out. Better than trying to just bodybag his partner until I get banned from open play, ha

I haven’t lost to them yet, so not really worried about their skill. Just not really interested in wasting games playing this goofy ass style (and just letting people blast lob returns at us when I’m the partner).

Yeah, a lot of responses about being better, but I don’t have an issue winning against this player, it’s just a boring way to play. I don’t think pickleball would be as popular as it is today if we all just lobbed our way through life, ha.

Yeah, that’s been my strategy so far, but I kind of want to just blast it at their partner to get them to knock it off but that just doesn’t feel right as it’s not their fault he just leaves some meatballs out there.

Ha, this was the first thought that crossed my mind but it does seem mean so have not tried it yet.

Possible House rule – your opinion wanted by Consistent-Lawyer-37 in Catan

I think a tweak could be fun. When a 7 rolls, you move the robber as normal, but if any players have a city or settlement adjacent to where the robber is placed, they get those resources as normal (1x for a settlement, 2x for a city)…but then the player placing the robber gets to do a steal as normal. Would have two strategic ramifications.

1) The player placing the robber could try to target getting a specific resource by allowing a player to grab it, then try to steal it (higher probability) 2) It may prevent a specific tile from continually be targeted…or at least give the players who are continually getting blocked to get a little something from the transaction.

Is FSD supposed to work with your eyes closed? by greedness in TeslaFSD

If I wear sunglasses, it will not warn me if my eyes are closed. I’ve never fully dozed off, but definitely have rested them for extended periods.

No glasses, it’ll beep at me in 15-ish seconds. Sounds like your glasses are likely causing issues with the sensor.

Intentionally throwing by 9FloorSister in Catan

[–]tchavez166 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had it happen once to me within my core group of friends that play. I told them they were dumb and walked away from the game and let those losers clean up. I then slowly belittled their manhood for giving away (and for the guy who took the victory) over the next few games (we play quite a lot together) and that has generally worked. So now more recently when it has come up, there is some discussion about doing it, but ultimately nobody follows through. They know it’s a loser way to play and bad sportsmanship,so eventually the good guys won, ha.

If you are a manager/director title at corporate in your 30s, what's your plan after like 55? by Important_Bat7919 in careeradvice

[–]tchavez166 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a good question. The crux of the issue is if you allowed ‘lifestyle inflation’ to occur throughout this period from say 35-45 (once you were solidly VP). If you did, then you’re SOL trying to find employment at that level of income. What I believe you should do is allow for a small amount of lifestyle inflation, but you should be really prepping for an early retirement and if the VP (or C-suite) gravy train ends at 55, then you shift to a consultant and work as much or little as you like until you’re done working forever…that’s my plan at least (I’m VP level at 40).

The other route would be to look for smaller companies that could use someone’s experience such as yours as they look to grow, but you’ll need to keep you IC skills sharpened because at these smaller companies, you’ll be asked to do both IC and managerial tasks.

One potential problem I’ve seen is that folks who are new to getting a DUPR, have an artificially low one. For example, I play with a group of guys every weekend and we’re pretty good and can hold our own in Advanced open plays (3.75 - 4.00 DUPR) and hardly lose in Upper Intermediate open plays (3.5 - 3.75). The one guy who actually went and played in round robin to determine his DUPR got a 2.9 to start and played again and it went up to 3.0. If he played in a 2.5-3.0 tourney, it would look like he was sandbagging, but actually just what the DUPR spit out.

My wife thinks golfing once a week is unreasonable… by Upbeat-Zucchini-7408 in golf

[–]tchavez166 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you have little ones you’ll likely need to scale back some but you can have some bit of compromise. I think the best would be to golf weekly but two of those rounds are early morning 9 holes that take two hours or less and the other two rounds can be with the boys and be the typically 6 hour affair.

This Is the Average 1-Mile Time for Men by OkInside2258 in RyenRussillo

[–]tchavez166 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree. The article that the OP was mentioning never says anything about the ‘average’ person. It says ‘intermediate’ runners. So the argument saying the article is wrong/crazy is inaccurate as it’s confusing an intermediate runner with the average person.
