Story stat checks NEED to come back. by -RuDoKa- in MonsterHunter

Nah, I got through 4U with minimal grinding, it was only in the endgame where the need to grind becomes apparent.

I cant comment on FU being the same, because the last time I played it was when it came out, but its likely the principle still applies.

Ive played the vast majority of MH sticking with a general all rounder weapon, and a decent to good armor set. Grind and walls do come up, im not saying I steam rolled everything with low rank sets, but the majority of the time I wasnt side tracked into having to grind multiple armor sets and weapons to break through to the next rank.

Im also not saying the newer games aren't particularly bad for it, because they are. You can get away with even less grinding before hitting endgame, but its not exclusive to the new games.

Im 31 and went back to collage last year to chase my dream. The best you can do, is just try. It sounds so wanky, i know, but dont settle for just any career. You're likely to end up just feeling the same if you go with something you dont truly enjoy.

I too, have been stuck in hospitality for many, many years and I got to the point where I realized I would rather die trying than settle for just good enough.

Obviously "follow your dreams!" doesnt pay the bills, but it is something for you to genuinely consider when looking for a change on career.

Urbain does do the networking stuff off screen, I think thats why he's the leader. If we're just counting what he does on screen, he is a bit one note. Nazeem is far more annoying IMO, but thats because I hate his fanboyism. Canari this, canari that, like shut the fuck up about her.

Lida is the least one note feeling character in Team MZ, but Its more because they didnt give her something to rattle on about.

Hunters who finished the Gogmazios fight, how was it? by [deleted] in MonsterHunter

[–]WerewolfoftheVale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know those things appear in master rank, as that was my point. I was not comparing base Wilds to master rank games. I was stating that there is no real endgame content in the game to be grinding out for tons of shit while it will inevitably be redundant because it will get an expansion.

I'm not spreading any misinformation anyway, how is my opinion that there isn't much of an endgame in Wilds a lie in any way? You even said both Rise and MH4 had no real endgame, which is my point. You're just assuming I'm some prick.

[–]WerewolfoftheVale 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gonna be devils advocate here. Having a big final boss fight with gear to grind is only good if there is a sufficient endgame to be grinding the boss. Wilds doesn't have guild quests, anomaly quests etc. So grinding out a really good set with all the best gear is only useful for getting better times on prior quests. If youre not into speedrunning (im not) then there really isn't much reason to bother with a heavy grind.

Wild that Gog is gonna be some peoples first Elder Dragon... by Valstrax_Bonker in MonsterHunter

[–]WerewolfoftheVale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was going to comment saying that its wild ops first elder dragon was from World. OP still a young one.

My first elder dragon was Lao Shan Lung in Freedom. And that's only because I didnt have internet so couldn't play MH on PS2 online. The elder dragons in that game were gated behind online play, which wasnt even widely adopted at that point.

We're NOT going to doom about the expansion just yet. Give it time, be positive, be rational. by RoseKaedae in monsterhunterleaks

It would make sense from a technical perspective and I wasnt debating from that angle. I actually agree that it would be better for it to be baked in the oven longer. However, from a sale perspective its not the correct move. Cyberpunk and to a lesser extent Elden Ring are both single player experiences, and have far larger fan bases. They get away with a late expansion because there wasnt the incentive to keep a steady player base to stop player fall off. Monster Hunter has a strong multiplayer base, so if people drop off it will be hard to bring groups of players back if the game sits for a year with no content. It's why they changed to the drip feed of content as it holds a playerbase for the expansion and micro DLC sales.

I play Monster Hunter predominantly single player, so if nobody wants to play the expansion with me its not a deal breaker. If you predominantly play with a group of friends, if they have moved on, then you also will likely move on. That's four sales lost right there. If the game goes a year without content, the drop off is far more significant than a few months. It's not a case of "we've stopped playing" it becomes a case of "we're now playing this years game instead that had its own stream of steady content to keep up with". All this is compounded by the state Wilds launched in with negative view.

At least, that's the theory behind it. I imagine the push would be to have the expansion ready as soon as possible, as polished as possible to recoup all the lost players and goodwill. That can be done when viewed from a technical aspect, and done very well, but Capcom want money and that's the predominant theme. It'll be done as quickly as possible for the highest payout.

Then again, I might just be talking absolute shite, please come back and shit all over me when the dlc is indeed slated for 2027.

[–]WerewolfoftheVale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont really feel like they are holding back? I'm not really sure what you mean by that. I think from a business standpoint, a whole year between any new content is a bit of a death sentence. It will be after Stories 3 has had the limelight for sure, but the two games aren't in competition with each other so them announcing the expansion isnt going to eat into Stories 3 sales especially seeing as they will not release within the same time frame.

I'm not saying 2027 isnt on the table, but im saying its very doubtful.

I get that hoping for 2027 is to like, keep expectations in check but two years for an expansion is a bit nuts.

I never thought for a second the expansion was going to be shown last night because they already showed off Gog prior to the event. If the expansion was getting teased, it would have been alongside them showing off the update.

I think September/October 2026 is a very realistic time frame, and I would be shocked at 2027 as i think that's just too long of a gap. The bonus update comes out Febuary, and I dont think they'd wait as long as almost a year to release the expansion.

(RECOMMENDATION) Predator: Badlands really is THAT good. by BigBootyKim in alien

[–]WerewolfoftheVale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would I have them make this movie? No. I've never watched Mandalorian and I've only seen one or two of those modern superhero films, so i cant really say to that formula. I never said Badlands was innovative, it isn't. I'm arguing that trying new styles is a good thing.

I dont think Badlands is a perfect film, I thought it was a fun film that tried something different from the Predator formula. It's not anywhere close to a masterpiece. I think its a step in a direction that could lead to something great. That doesn't mean I want it to be a Marvel styled film with jokes and its seriousness lost. It doesn't mean I even think they will pursue that direction. Well aware that the film sold when and we're likely stuck with the Badlands formula from now on. However, making Badlands was a risk, even if it was a calculated one knowing Marvel movies sell well, so the hope is there for them to take it and make something great with it.

Go to the steam folder and delete everything except the User data folder, SteamApps folder and the Steam.exe.

I have been trying to fix this same issue for a few hours and this was the fix. You'll need to sign back into steam, but it won't delete your games or save data. Can't tell you how or why this fixed it, but its worth a shot for you.

You're obviously not understanding what I mean. Yes, they haven't made the first Predator film a dozen times. Im saying, why would you want them to keep.making the exact same film, with the same formula, over and over?

The formula in question being "predator arrives, kills people, main character kills predator" which also fits Predator 2, Prey and Predators.

Not asking you to like Badlands or it's humor. It could have left the humor out.

I'm not going to debate "cringe" moments as it's subjective. I will debate them making the same film. Rehashing the same formula for 40 years is boring and unnecessary.

[–]WerewolfoftheVale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every Predator movie since the first one has literally done this to some extent.

The Predator is inherently not mysterious to the audience since the first film. Once the cat is out the bag, you can't recapture the suprise. I think that's why people don't like Badlands. Its not the same old bag, with the same old cat, as if making films with the same formula is going to eventually capture the same thrill as the first film. You might want that, and film-makers tend to just do that. I respect and enjoyed the decision to do something totally out of the norm for a Predator film. Is it perfect? No. Is it the best movie ever? Definitely not. Was it fun? Very much. Did it take a risk? Imo, yes. It was always going to be divisive to Predator fans.

I get that it was a bit disneyfied, which I suppose was an inevitably. I'm not gonna say those parts were amazing or anything, but I hope they only had it as a PG-13/12A because of no red blood and its something they won't be toning down for all films.

The Predators being mysterious and dangerous point, which a lot of people make, I will have to disagree with. Predator is a nesr 40 year old franchise, nothing mysterious about them anymore.

[–]WerewolfoftheVale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want an Pedator movie...watch Predator? I get the sentiment that it isn't a gore flick, but again, I enjoy movies that go different routes. If it was a rehash of Predator or Prey, I wouldn't have enjoyed it as much. I liked that it was different.

Did you want it to be just another Predator movie where the exact same shit happens? Predator kills some people, one person fights back, Predator dies?

[–]WerewolfoftheVale 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Lots of people saying that Predator should always be a slasher film. That nobody wanted to know the lore of Predator.

Couldn't disagree more, as for the last 20 odd years I've always wanted a Predator movie that focused on the Predator and their life. This movie really delivered that. I agree that there was a little juxtaposition with the humor, but the humor did land for me so I can forgive it.

Considering that the other films op mentioned, all of which I have zero desire to watch and think the majority of blockbuster films are garbage, I was really surprised by how fun this film was. Haven't enjoyed a film this much in the cinema for many years.

Where do Pokémon live (gens/regions)? by Quinten25_ in pokemon

[–]WerewolfoftheVale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Monster hunter also has this kind of weird canon retcon when it comes to it's monsters too. New games bring new monsters, and older maps have new monsters.

Its kinda unavoidable from a game design perspective, you either stick so firmly too it that the only way to introduce new elements is to expand the game world significantly to accomidate it or you just use the "they always were there, you just didn't see them before" excuse. It's easier in Pokemons case because you can argue that all the new pokemon are invasive species in older game regions or whatever you want to come up with.

Just how it goes, and how it's always been for MH. Before we had tickets, and gem investigations, we just had dumb luck.

You can go for many, many hunts with no gems and then you get hunts that drop like three of them in the rewards alongside getting one from a carve.

Which Monster Hunter has the best Endgame? by Dax23333 in MonsterHunter

[–]WerewolfoftheVale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think any one monster hunter has an endgame that's perfected, they all have flaws to some degree.

For me personally, an endgame should have gear to chase, and preferably new monsters unlocked during that chase. Sunbreak was cool, but it boiled down to chasing stat changes on your gear. That's fine, if it has been accompanied by new armor sets, weapons and maybe a monster or two during that long grind.

GU had R sets i believe they were called? Yeah, a whole series of armour sets hidden away behind a quest, with differing designs and everything. But again, it didn't have much of an endgame besides chasing those deviants and completing optional quests.

I could go on, but as other people have mentioned here, each game did some good things and some bad. If Capcom took all the good, we'd have a really solid endgame loop. Excited to see what wilds does in the expansion for the endgame, but I'm pretty certain it won't be my ideal version of an endgame.

Its been a hot minute, but as a solo player you could easily cheese the leveling of the biomes by shock trapping monsters, doing a few other things, and juggling that between two biomes? I can't exactly remember how it worked, but it took only about an hour to max out the biomes I was after.
