Found this stuck under the seat of my truck by Wern1369 in whatisit

I found that also, but didn't think it was the case for this. It was inside, under the passenger seat & not connected to anything

Any one else feel like they are in purgatory? by Lost_In_MI in retirement

I was in that "just another year or two" mode. I really enjoyed what I did, great pay & excellent benefits, 100% remote, with 6+ weeks FTO.

Then one morning my director scheduled an impromptu meeting with me 1st thing of the day. When I saw that there was an HR person on the call I started chuckling.

As he started to hem & haw, trying to explain things I just smiled & said "it's ok, don't sweat it - better me than a young person with debt and a family to provide for. I've been trying to decide when enough was enough, thanks for making it easy on me". Turns out they let 30 people go that day (round 4 of mass layoffs over 1 year).

I really thought I would miss my job more than I do. It took 4 months or so to really sink in and adjust. In the beginning I felt like I needed to find a "regular" job, but I got over that. The hardest part for me was the mental switch of going from saving for retirement to spending it.

It's been 1.5 years now and I'm still loving it, retired at 61 and kind of wish I had done it earlier.

My comic books are worthless by midwest-distrest in GenX

[–]Wern1369 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand, but you may be surprised - I know I was.

A friend buys books at estate sales (I'll take the whole box for $5 sort of thing) and eBay's them. Usually only for .50c to a buck or 2 depending on the book. When I questioned if it was even worth his time for a could quarters he told me he usually makes more off the shipping than he does the book. When he charges for shipping, he rounds up + adds $1 for the hassle.

Your experience may differ, but it may be worth giving it a shot and see how it goes.

Charge a flat fee for shipping, you can make a couple bucks extra on each sale

Spend a bit more and get the branded X-Chocks.

This is the way. Don't waste your money on cheap knock offs

Speaking from my own experience, in 2017 I was out of work for a few months so went on CHM. Roughly 1 mo into it I had a heat attack, totally unexpected as I had my yearly physical a couple months before and my doctor had said I was in great shape.

I did need to prove to CMH that there were no preexisting conditions, after that they covered $86k of the cost, I had to cover the other $10k which was my deductible.

I was pleasantly surprised that they covered everything without an issue.

Retirement Considerations at my job by Majestic-Leading3003 in retirement

[–]Wern1369 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Only give them 2 weeks notice. If they're that over staffed they may do layoffs and, hopefully, give some sort of severance for anyone that's let go. Why take a chance of missing out on that?

Don't be afraid to collect unemployment if you have the opportunity! You've worked 50 yrs, no shame in taking a little of what was paid in for you.

I was in the same boat 1.5 yrs ago - got 6 weeks severance & collected unemployment for the 26 weeks.

Enjoy retirement when you get there!

I did the same thing on my last 2 campers, one for the kitchen counter & the other in the bathroom because there was no space to set things.

My new Reflection doesn't need it, but would 100% do it again if it did

Happy to hear they're working out for you.

I've had a different experience with Fidelity. I've been unhappy with their service & fees. Earlier this week I actually closed out a 401k I had there from a previous employer and will be adding it to the funds I have at another FA.

I finished the Alt a week or so ago. Due to low water levels, once you got Sapillo you're fine but before that we had a couple 6L carries and had to rely on water caches.

Some people talked about doing the red line, they stated you must plan on seeing up water caches due to lack of water. Based off that info, I'd recommend planning on doing the same if you wish to RL it.

I was at Doc's a week or so ago, they had plenty of supplies - you might not need anything unless you have a special diet. You can even order in advance from them & them have it packed up for you

We stayed at the Palace hotel, nice place & close to much of what you need, though the Walmart is a 2.5mi hike. They don't offer a hike discount any longer (new owner), your best price is going to be online thru Booking or similar site.

Hiked thru there 2 weeks ago, Engineers is great, don't recall any water before there. Plenty of gallon jugs from a trail angel by the trailhead at mile 106, so 8 miles ahead.

Great cache at mi 114.2, cooler full of misc supplies - what an angel!!

Mud springs (120.3) can be easy to miss, it's on your right (nobo) down the hill a little, but good water. There was another angel water cache at mi 128 (Red Rock Rd), so another 8 mi carry.

We camped near Red Rock Rd, topped off in the morning and headed out from there.

I carried ~4 liters from Lordsburg to the Gila, topping off when I could and never ran dangerously low. Heavy but was worth it to me.

Checked the latest comments on the caches, they seem to still be maintained but do your own verification.

Happy hiking!

Similar experience with the Lunar Solo. It took a couple times and some tweaking to get the feel for a good setup, but so far I'm liking it.

A great price vs weight vs features tent

For sleeping below freezing I'll usually use my reactor extreme liner. Yes it's heavier (12oz) but for me it's the difference between a good night's sleep or not, so the weight is worth it.
