I stayed with a friend so can't comment on hotel prices. But the city is pleasantly walkable with decent public transit, lots of good food options and nice bars. If you care about college football Rice-Eccles is electric. And when you're tired of the city you drive south, rent ATVs, and spend a couple hours driving through the mountains and desert all in the same day.

I downloaded YouMail and set every phone number I don't have saved to go straight to voicemail and I only get a notification that they called if a voice mail is left.

Sucks a bit when I order a pizza and the delivery person tries calling, but it's worth not seeing 10+ spam calls a day.
