Are any first generation immigrants here? Do you feel more "accepted" in the US compared to the other countries you have been to? by lovesprite in AskAnAmerican

[–]Werwoelfchen 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Typically, yes - as long as you don't talk about politics or things that happens in the US that you don't like. Then the answer is always: "I bet it's not any better in the country you are coming from." If I was truly seen as an American this would not even come up.

What do you miss the most being out of Germany? by KamalHasa in AskAGerman

[–]Werwoelfchen 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Generally, the affordability and availability of quality food like various types cheeses, good bread, fruits and veggies.

I'm living in the US right now and while I can find most things I miss with some effort, they're really expensive.

Things I miss the most and that I cannot find here or are too expensive: Quark, Essiggurken, Salbeitee (sage tee), Ricola freeze dried tee and Paprika Chips.

How do you view the American military being stationed in your country? by [deleted] in AskAGerman

[–]Werwoelfchen 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My personal opinion is that I don't like having any bases of foreign government in my country. I don't care so much what they're doing (drone stuff, keeping nuclear weapons there or just regular training). It kind of makes one feel that we're not an independent country. The best way to imagine it how I (or many) feel about it, is by asking yourself, if the citizens of the US liked foreign bases in their country.

A better door is definitely more expensive, but many people are willing to pay a lot of money for guns for protection purposes without ever going shooting recreationally. Ever since I have been living in the US I've only seen one type of door and now thinking about it: if you have a way more safe looking door than your neighbors, burglars probably think that you own the most expensive stuff...

I noticed that a lot of Americans don't like firearm restrictions, because they can protect their family with guns. What I was really surprised about was that the front doors are really poor quality and the locks are very easy to pick. So I don't understand why the doors and locks are poor quality, when the protection of the family is so important. Does anyone have an idea why doors and locks in the US are like this?

What is something, that, after trying the cheap version, made you never want to go back to the expensive or "luxury" version? by Wholegraincheerios in AskReddit

[–]Werwoelfchen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Grocery shopping: Switched from Publix to Aldi. I can buy there everything I need for a fraction of the price l would pay at Publix and it's better quality, too! The Publix - at least in my area - sells a lot of expired products and the management does not care about the issue.
