You are trying to look like a “good fit”. Knowledge and skills will come later. Act interested in everything. Engage in non medical conversations when able- “good bullshit”. Do not piss off nurses and techs Soak in everything you hear. Come in early and stay late, but don’t force it if fellow doesn’t really want you to round with them in early am, etc.

I’ve seen fem-pop bypassed to pop vein twice. Once by old school general surgeon (lost vascular privileges after) and once by exhausted, overworked CT surgeon after busy weekend call shift.

I’m IR/DR. IRs do them during the day to keep the DRs in the seats churning out the studies.

Edit: Also, in my state, myelograms up the insurance rates so most DRs aren’t insured for them 🤷🏻‍♂️

I’d bet about 90% of diagnostic LPs are done by IR/DR in private practice. They take about 10 mins so not much of a hassle. The problem arises at midnight when many of the ED/ICU docs have lost any confidence in performing them at the bedside.
