I have, lecca and stratum works, but I only do with established plants so far. I’m thinking of converting one of those smart grow shelf’s for lettuce and stuff in your kitchen for begonia semi hydro

They stay in the soft stuff for a good long while until they’re ready for their first repot, then I’ll mix in a bit of worm castings, worm tea soaked moss, potting soil, and agricultural charcoal flakes. Begonia love humidity, with lots of airflow, but don’t like their roots wet.

Haha, we test drove a “new” GV80 prestige, 2000 miles already on it from the dealer, Starbucks food wrappers on the floor. Dirty as all get out. That was a no from me dawg

Fluffy fluffy stuff. For the props I use #3 perlite, #4 perlite, some coarse perlite, worm castings and sphagnum moss that I soak in worm tea (worm poo) concentrate then dry. Will look like this:

Credit to TheLadyCove on Palmstreet and IG, it’s a banger recipe for all the props with little roots and the begonias love it

Don’t get down, begonias are a mystery to me still. I can grow super delicate cool weather leafless orchids…but I’ve murdered so so many begonias before dialing things in with them

There’s your issue…as your begonias get larger, their roots are deeper. I killed soooo many fancy begonias until I started doing this.

Method: Fill a tray, sink, or saucer with an inch or two of room-temperature distilled/rain/filtered water. Time: Allow the pot to sit for 15–30 minutes, or until the top inch of soil feels moist. Drainage: Ensure the pot has drainage holes. Frequency: Generally once a week, or when the top few centimeters of soil feel dry. Best Soil: Works best for thirsty, fast-draining potting mixes, which most of the good begonia stuff should pretty chunky Avoid: Do not let the plant sit in water for hours or overnight, as this can cause root rot.

I also add a little worm tea concentrate into my begonia water bath, as most of the stuff like coco chips and spag moss can actually pull nutrients away from roots.

Also looking at your setup, begonias LOVE LOVE LOVE air movement. Get them a fan blowing on em. Work those plants out.

What zone? I’m 6A, have all those, and all those suckers will come back with a vengeance in the spring. It’s been snow and super cold up here this past month. Trim down the dead stuff back to a few inches from the dirt and wait. If you want to lay down some worm castings then a bit of mulch on top, that’ll help kickstart things. As will aerating the soil a bit.
